United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Very nice as it is, I think LR Nut would have the rear pillar body-coloured.
Might be quite nice actually...... any photo shoppers? Wink

I agree. I think it would add more visual weight to the rear end and make it more forward pointy. At the movement it is just a big rectangle with no real forward direction.

The trouble they have is, since other manufacturers have come into SUV's, they have nicked all the good styling lines so JLR aren't left with much to work with that doesn't make them look like something else.

As a side note, whoever designed the Thunderbirds door handles would be mortified that this picture was taken with them sticking out. Laughing

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

I popped in to my local Land Rover dealer for a look round at all the latest models to see what possible replacement I could look at for my Freelander in a year or so, what surprised me was that the RR Sport and full sized RR both had similar depth space in the boot when measured for anything that you would like to stow beneath the blind. This was due to both having a similar slope at the rear end. I looked at the Discovery too and liked the inside but don't think I could live with the exterior view, I know I wouldn't see it when driving but I would be looking at it when it was on my drive. I asked the salesman about lead time on this model and I was told I could have one built to my own spec and delivered within 6 weeks, when I asked about the RR Sport he said the lead time was 4 months. The implication there is that the Discovery isn't selling as well as they had hoped, perhaps this will lead to a revision of the rear end sooner rather than later.

All models bar the Discovery Sport and Evoque look even more identical when you compare like for like, both externally and internally, it's as though Gerry McGovern only has one design idea and has managed to sell this to Land Rover. All we can hope is that the new Defender when it arrives offers something different, otherwise I'll have to look at another brand after more than 20 years a Land Rover owner

Well covered I know but the rear of the new disco is offensive. I can't even look at one on the road, my ocd goes into overdrive..
Apparently there is a company somewhere that will sell you a correct rear end designed by someone with 20:20 vision. Not sure how much though...

Offensive! Really! Rolling with laughter so with your OCD your LR badge on the front is in the centre?

Dennij - the D5 is about to go through model year revisions including updated engines, there is a wait for one of those I believe. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I had a drive in a D5. There is a lot that needs fixing before we get to the centre plate conversion. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Have had the pleasure of driving my brothers HSE Luxury SI6 supercharged I really can’t fault the car. Yes the rear plate is offset just like it’s predessors! Only difference is that it’s an oblong plate.

In the interests of balance, it’s easy to get bored of the endless groundless optimism too! Rolling Eyes “If only you’d drive one”, “It doesn’t matter what it looks like from the outside”, “I don’t need all of the space and visibility”, “it’s growing on me / will grow on you” (no car should ever have to grow on you!) and so on... Rolling Eyes

There you go, balance achieved! Thumbs Up

Tigger did you ever own a Discovery 2? Remember the uproar with the deletion of the spare wheel on the tailgate door. The D3 was a marmite car also then it grew on D2 owners ... MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

No, I never did own a D2, though I did drive a D1, which was pretty frightening to drive at motorway speeds! Shocked

Leaving the wheel on the door was never a practical option. People were rolling 4x4’s over at the time and the C of G had to come right down, while wheels themselves were getting much bigger and heavier anyway. So the spare was shifted for good and practical reasons that were inevitable, not just because they’d hired a slightly dodgy stylist Rolling Eyes

I know someone who bought an early D1 new and he even still has it. He hasn’t accepted even the D3 yet “because it’s too big and it won’t fit down green lanes”. He has a point and no amount of “getting used to it” is ever going to fix that. He took me green landing once and I followed him in my first FL2 and even that was still somewhat wider than his D1!

Likewise, the fact that the ‘5 is a bit Censored isn’t going to change with time Laughing

I have to say I do like the D5 but again I don't like that style of offset number plate. If I could afford to buy a D5 then I could afford to get that Startech conversion for the rear end which IMO makes it look massively better.

The startech conversion is more hassle than it’s worth.

A lot of people said they would buy one if the plate was central. I’d love LR to change it, just to see of those people would put their money where their mouth is. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
