Servicing in Derbyshire

At the risk of opening a huge can of worms or a libel case........

Time to think about getting the new (to me anyway) FL2 serviced as it heads tieards 75k. It was serviced by Williams in Manchester for it's first couple if services and then by an independent garage Formosa there on. Piece of mind says I'd like to get it serviced and done properly o I know it's been done etc.

My nearest LR dealer is Lamb's in Chesterfield who I have no knowledge of. My next nearest is Hunters in Derby who when I told a company car Evoque there for a recall check that had not been supplied by them treated me like something that had just fallen out if a dogs back end.

I have no experience of any if the independent LR specialists in the area. My default is an excellent garage in. Atlock called McKenzies who I have nothing but praise for but I fell like I'd like to get an LR dealer to service it.

Thoughts? Am I being daft to want an LR dealer to service it? Any one else used Lamb's or Hunters? Any recommendation fior a decent LR specialist in Derbyshire.

All comments made and received without prejudice of course!!!!

Cheers
John

I think Gordon Lamb are reputable and I've never had a problem, having said that don't expect a bargain.

I bought my current car from Lamb's. Whilst the car is great, it is unlikely that I would buy there again. When it came to be serviced, (1st service) the price quoted by them seemed very high so I shopped around.

Without playing one off against the other, Guy Salmon Sheffield quoted nearly £100 less than Lamb's for the same service.

Not only that, on drop off we were provided with a paid for taxi into the city centre (our choice of destination) and picked up by a delightful customer service lady when the car was ready. No extra cost added to the quote, car has performed faultlessly for the year and I was very impressed with the whole thing. So much so that a week after the event we bought a three year service contract from GS.

Oddly enough, we have just had an email reminder to get in touch re the next service which is due at the end of this month.

Of the four dealers I have been to in my Land Rover owning time, Lookers Chelmsford, Lancaster Welwyn, Gordon Lamb Chesterfield and Guy Salmon Sheffield, the latter has been the most impressive and positive dealer experience of them all.

I now live near to Chesterfield so Sheffield is not at all far or difficult to get to.

Thank you - I'd forgitten about them. Sounds like you've had excellent service there, I'll give them a call, be interesting to see if they offer the discounted servicing I read about somewhere else on the forum.

Cheers

Hi, I bought mine from GL Chesterfield second hand. Now well out of warranty.

I now use Excel Automotive Ltd in Sheepbridge. I have used them for our cars for the last 10 years. Very reasonable. More importantly reliable.

No fancy showroom or car sales just an honest workshop. I've had a number of repairs done there,

Having recently had mine in at Gordon Lamb for some warranty work my initial thought when booking in was poor customer service however on returning to drop the car off and on collection I was looked after by a guy called James on the service desk, what can I say the service and customer care was excellent.

Re. Gordon Lamb Chesterfield.

I agree, customer service is great.

Sadly mine was in there 4 times in my year of warranty.

I just can't afford their prices now I'm out of extended warranty.

I am NE Derbyshire based and use a local independent Sheffield Prestige - http://www.sheffieldprestige.co.uk/service/

They are based south side of Sheffield and I have been using them for 4+ years. Nothing too much trouble, reliable service and good advice is my experience with them.

From personal experience I would avoid Gordon Lamb LR Chesterfield like the plague.

With a previous FL2, I enquired about the 3+ servicing for £350 B service... they feigned ignorance of the 3+ until I pointed out it was on their own web page ''Ohhhhh THAT 3+ servicing scheme'' was his response. I wasn't convinced afterwards they had done a proper B service either.

Then last year I part ex'd the above FL2 for an Evoque. On pick up, it hadn't been serviced, hadn't been MOT'd, hadn't had identified faults fixed. Over the next 7 months it needed a new transfer box, new gear box, new clutch/flywheel, starter motor, EGR valve... and the icing on the cake.... was found to have been badly repaired after some sort of accident prior to me buying it with a poor paint job and panel fit.
After much discussions with LRCS involved as well, they put together a deal on my current FL2.... BUT..... let me drive it away with and expired MOT even though I asked if it had been done.

But at least their salesmen and service desk staff were pleasant enough, even though I knew a massive amount more about the FL2 than the salesman did (he did point out the nice leather seats and Bluetooth hands free though Laughing )
