No Power steering lock on

Hi new Just to say got the no power to dash when putting in Key fob, and steering lock on.
Did following as per information on this site.
1 Disconnected battery pos and neg for 1 hour
2 Checked all fuses relays
3 Tried spare key fob
The following led to no change still no power and steering lock on
4 Removed steering column cover
5 Hit steering lock with small hammer had to use a ½ drive socket extent ion bar
Still no change so started again but this time after taking off battery pas and neg I rubbed both theses lead together metal end lugs

Put in key fob steering lock release and power now starts is it worth getting L/R dealer to check before this happens again. Tom
