Right I know this gets asked all the time BUT...
My old Freelander 1 had Bridgestone Dueller SPs Christ I've forgotten the size already they were only 16 inch rims I know that and not wide low profiles and they worked in harsh Scottish winters and rain and summer for years no problems even in the bad snow several years ago, great off road as and when we went to vintage rallies in wet fields etc not big off-road use. Great around the greasy city roundabouts etc,

My question given my tyre useage is....

On my Freelander 2 235/55/19's what do/would people use for a mainly on road but sometimes wet muddy grass and the possibility of some deep Scottish snow, price isn't as important as quality really. And I don't want to be messing with two sets of wheels if I'm honest, only had the Freelander 2 for a month and it's got Kumho city ventures on and I've a dood 5mm left but I've no confidence in them at all on wet roads, they are pretty pish to be fair!!!


So any advice or experience you've had would be great fully received.

My 19's are shod with Continental Cross Contact UHPs. Primarily a road tyre but good enough for most situations. Especially as the Freelander 2 Terrain Response system will get you out of most situations if you let it. Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres here. Excellent in dry and wet conditions and quiet on the road too.

Check out Avon RANGER HTT 103V tyres on Tyre Shopper I love mine well grippy quiet and the tread pattern even looks good I got an excellent deal on mine. Mine are 18 V rated I paid £356:80 for 4 fitted.

I've been looking at the Pirelli Scorpion verde all season and reading the reviews, people either rate or slate and the same with the Michelins too, and tha conti cross contact also. Why isn't it as straight cut as it used to be!!!!!  FREELANDER 1 55 plate XS TD4 Had for 7yrs now sold 😢

The Pirelli Verde rates well in both economy and grip and is a premium tyre. What's not to like?

I have Avon Ranger Ice on 17's for winter and they have proved to be excellent (I even drove to Spain and back last year using them). For a medium price tyre they take some beating.

I have Pirelli Scorpion Verde on mine, have had them around 6 months, initially they were very quiet, of late they seem noisy?
The original Continental tyres allowed for a much more spirited drive, these seem mushy by comparison although they are more comfortable being 'softer'.

Weird. My experience is exactly the opposite. I find the Verdes streets ahead of my old Conti Cross Contacts in every department. Ain't subjectivity great? 😆

Now this is exactly what I mean, you love these and hate those, he hates these and loves those, what a flaming dilemma!!!! Michelins can't be a bad tyre really or can they??? Had Michelins on most cars I've had but only seemed suited to the V6 Vectra by miles was the best choice, they are expensive to get it wrong though!!! Well they all are,

What the F am I gonna do??? Got a few months before bad weather but I'd like to be ready for when it gets here.

I've got Goodyear wrangler all weather on my Freelander and my wife has General Grabber AT's on hers . The Goodyears are more road biased than the Generals whereas they are softer riding with more bodyroll. When I come to replace my tyres it will be with Goodyears again , but I do like the chunky look the grabbers give the Fl2 .

Pirelli Scorpion have served me well in the past.

Note that there is a big difference between Scorpion Verde and Scorpion Verde All Season. Similar names and easily confused.

The Verde All Season performed well on the Disco Sport I played with on the LR Experience day. Don't think that LR fit the bog standard Verde to anything.

Yes, that is a good point, mine are the 'all season' derivative.

Aaaaah now we could be getting somewhere then, I was looking at the "all season" but when you looked at the review sites the same answers and same people's reviews came up for both Verde and Verde all season, that kinda makes sense with the conflicting reviews then, thanks for clearing that up.

Pirellis have always given good grip but poor wear capabilities, for obvious reasons you can have a soft grippy tyre being hard wearing and vice versa, I'm torn between a set of Mich's and the Verde all season I must be honest. FREELANDER 1 55 plate XS TD4 Had for 7yrs now sold 😢

I used to get 30,000 miles out of a set of Pirelli Scorpion STRs on my old D2. That was changing the tyres as they dropped below 4mm and deffo by 3mm.
