Battery Drain?

Hi. I've had my 2010 TD4 XS for a week now and have had a lot of help from this great forum. I've two issues that MIGHT be related to battery draining and any help would be appreciated.

1. When I turn off the engine, exit the vehicle and lock the doors, I can hear a motor whine under the bonnet for half a minute or so. Any idea what that might be?

2. The Stop/Start engine function stopped working, roughly from the time I started to charge my phone from the cigarette lighter. Can that really be enough to account for the loss of the start/stop function? I've read in one post that a weakened battery will cause it and that there are several threads on the topic, but I can't get the forum 'search topics' function to work Sad FL2 2010 (Facelift) TD4 XS

The noise from the engine is the throttle body or something like that and is normal so don't worry,I believe the start stop stops working if the battery is low,a good charge may sort it out or it's a sign the battery is getting weak, easy enough to diagnose with a multi meter.

Thanks very much for both replies and the article. I was surprised that the start/stop didn't kick-in after I'd done a good ninety minutes driving yesterday. The car starts fine every time. Initially I ddn't want the start / stop function but having used it for a week I now miss it Wink i FL2 2010 (Facelift) TD4 XS

Yes an hour and a half driving should have everything well charged and tip top,I would check the battery and alternator first there will be others on here that will be far more knowledgeable than me on the stop start malarkey.

There is a number of other factors other than battery condition that decide the operation of stop/start - air conditioning active and at desired temperature/evaporator temp, seat heaters active, heated steering wheel, coolant temperature, gearbox temperature, HDC or any special programs selected etc. MY15

Is there a way to turn off the interior lights in the boot and foot wells without locking the car? FL2 2010 (Facelift) TD4 XS

You could remove the bulbs if they are a issue for you. My GS has no footwell bulbs so not something I miss. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

No there isn't unless as said take the bulbs out, after reading Stuart's post I think you should go back to your original idea of not being bothered about stop start Rolling with laughter

Haha exactly!!!! Thank god my car doesn't have stop/start. Last service had an Evoque in mid 30's temps and the car would stop and immediately start again because of the A/C (it is Australia), drove me absolutely crazy and turned it off!!!!!
For me it's not desirable. MY15

Not a fan of the Stop Start and I turn if off every trip. It will also lead to premature failure of the ring rear and starter motor plus battery life as well.

I did ask if anyone knew a fuse out cure but alas it seems a option with no override unless you are a Auto Electrical Genius. Big Cry FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Its can be disabled within the CCF, simple as changing from enable to disable. MY15

Interesting to see the comments. I hadn't thought of the impact on the starter motor etc. With my last car, I got into the habit of turning off the ignition at lights, especially in town, to reduce diesel fumes and to savour a bit of quiet - a noisy Mondeo. I'm for any green initiatives and look forward to a hydrogen cell FLR Whistle (I'll get my coat). FL2 2010 (Facelift) TD4 XS

you might find a battery that has been standing for a while will need a charge from a intelligent charger ie a cteck charger, the vehicles alternator will only bring the charge up to about 85%,but will maintain it ok above this once its charged.

Is the battery the original? Might need changing. When I changed my battery my stop/start has worked pretty well. One thing I have noticed is that if I have the fans set above half way on the dial then the stop start doesn't work at all. My original battery was 4 years old when I changed it. Car was just starting to struggle a little when starting in cold weather, car been OK for the last 2 years. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
