HST 19" off road tyres

So im looking to get some off road / AT tyres for my free lander 2 HST which has the 19" alloys on it.
I don't do a great deal of off roading anymore which I why I thought it was ok to go for the HST model this time, but I do quite often end up in wet muddy fields! Camping, Kids scouts, Hiking, Climbing etc....

Limited options it looks like........

On my old truck I had BFGoodrich A/T's which were amazing. Im my opinion, best tyre ever!
But I looks like the only A/T option for the 19" HST Wheels are the 235/55/19 General Grabber All Terrain 105H.

Two questions....

1.Does anyone have any experience with these tyres? are they any good etc....
2.Does anyone know of any other options than the above tyres, if not then that's what im getting anyway!

Thnakyou for looking.

My wife's got 235/65/17 GG At's on her Fl2 , they've been on two years and 18k and hardly look worn . Softer riding and more roll than my Fl2 which has Goodyear Wranglers fitted . Slightly more road noise too , would we fit them again ? Yes without hesitation.

Thanks for the reply

So having done some more digging on here it would seem that the Grabbers are pretty rubbish in the snow!

On the very rare occasions that we actually get snow I need my FL to get places, Between where I live and where I work is pretty remote and get very snowed in when it does snow. Now im worried. My BFGoodriche A/T's were great in the snow.
Maybe ill get some chains for the grabbers, just in case it does ever snow.

Never had any issues in the snow with them tbh , the Fl2 is the only vehicle we've had that could get up our drive in the snow , it made it look very easy indeed , I think the GG At's will do everything you want of them . I would say their better than the Wranglers in the snow and their not too shabby themselves.

Evening

I have an HST, bought for similar reasons to you - don't go off-road much but do drive over fields a fair bit and especially during shooting season!

I put 235/55/19General Grabber AT's on, and have never looked back. Excellent off-road and I've only noticed 1 mpg drop when on road. I'd recommend them 100%.
I took her to Hawkstone Park a few weeks ago for a pay and play day hosted by Ash 4x4, a bit wet in the morning but soon dried out. I was the only freelander there among 20 odd defenders which I was surprised at but my god did it perform well. I couldn't be happier and to top it off, a Series landy followed me along a track, and got stuck where I breezed through. I blame the GG tyres!

Buy them!

Henry

I've got GG AT's on 17" rims. I've been on grass, gravel, mud, snow and they work brilliantly. Definitley replacing with the same when I need to.

Who said they are no good in snow? Thumbs Up

That picture was when we had a few inches up on the moors, the road to the cafe (about 4 miles) was only accesible by 4x4 that day, didn't have a spot of bother!

Pirelli do the Scorpion ATR in 19" , I have them on the Freelander but in 17", they have been amazing in the snow, and very quiet on the road, in fact I will put another set on, they are still well in road legal limits, but IMHO ATR need lots of tread in the winter . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Hi,
My front tyres are worn but rear are good. Currently have Nokian all found but want to change fronts to GG AT2.
Will that be OK?

Cheers

You need to switch tyres front to rear to get equal wear every 10,000 miles or so. I for one would always match the full set to protect adverse wear on Haldex etc. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks,

19" wheels seem to have limited tyre options. Is it OK to put say 18" wheels and winter tyres on for winter.

Cheers

I am very happy on 17 inch rims all year around with All Season Tyres so no need unless you really want them for a Winter set of tyres. Use the search button for lots of info. Small wheels generally give a better ride. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks,
Mine is on factory fitted 19"" rims.
I have a spare set of decent summer tyres but need at lease 2 new winters.

Choice is limited on 19"" so wondered if it would be OK to have a winter set on 18 or even 17". Not sore of effect on ride height though?

Cheers,
S

FL2 came with 16'' 17'' 18'' and 19'' wheels from the factory

there are plenty of guys on here that have a smaller 2nd set of wheels and tyres for winter use and larger set for summer use

so long as you stick to the standard tyre size in relation to the wheel size then you wont have any issues. There are some that have fitted over size tyres but its not everyones cup of tea.
