it works out cheaper (only one exchange transaction to GBP) and its so much easier - beep and you are away - no need to wake your passenger (or hunt for the ticket if you are in one of the I assume older sections)

I have a Saneftoll tag it is excellent and saves loads of time, whilst driving in France.
It does not work in Spain.
As mentioned by others you will receive your toll bill the following month and it is paid by direct debit.
If I can recall my last bill it was approx £90ish from Calais to Med (Spanish border)
Spanish tolls are much cheaper, (I pay with cash)

Calais to Limoges via Paris is about 40 euro.
Not sure if its more towing.
There is a toll after Limoges down to Toulouse and maybe another one after Toulouse depending on where you are going towards the spanish border. I dont bother with the tag as the tag lanes are height restricted unless you go with the HGV's.

The annual fees are worth a couple of pints. me off when they charge you to use it as on top of the extortionate tolls. I generally avoid motorways anyway. Much more enjoyable to drive through the countryside. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

The tolls through France to Spain are too much that I refer to go by ferry to Santander, the time we went through France the added cost of fuel, tolls and hotel both ways almost equal the ferry cost from Postmouth to Spain. In general I think it's about over €1 per 10 KM; the problem is in France non toll road are choked with traffic.
I often drive down to Malaga from Santander and if I go via Burgos - Madrid - Malaga there isn't toll to pay. Via Palencia it was about €15 toll to Malaga. In Spain non toll autovia are almost empty.

My Tag packed up without me knowing before a trip to Spin a couple of weeks ago, so I had to pay, if I remember correctly.

From Nantes (where tolls start if coming from Brittany) to the Spanish border near San Sebastian 57€ for Class 2 (Caravan)

From the border to San Sebastian 4 or 5€

Ferry booked and paid for, campsite booked and paid for - no insurance as Gill has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and no-one would quote. Then .............


Due to industrial unrest the French are now rationing fuel. My normal driving style will get me 20mpg towing, and the ferry company will not let vehicles carry spare cans of fuel. Its 600miles from Dieppe to San Sebastian and I will be lucky to get 260 miles on a tankful  Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Yes bit of a worry I am flying out to Limoges on Saturday for a long weekend, Hire car booked but they have a full-full policy not sure how thats going to work.

You need breakdown insurance on a Landrover??

Seriously Andy I dont know how you get round the fuel issue unless you manage to "lose" a couple of cans in the car and van

The insurance was for cancellation - ie if I can't reliably get to San Sebastian by car then I would just fly and stay in a hotel, remember for me it's just work, for Gill it's an adventure.
Many years of working away from home mean that foreign countries are just a pain in the ,I have met some wonderful people in foreign countries, but airports, cramped airline seats, airline food, really obnoxious border officials, weight limits (I'm taking tools), and hotels next to industrial estates are not for everyone.

I might have a couple of 25 litre cans that I could "hide", these would help me get most of the way to the border, then blow £750 and get back via Bilbao.
Towing back from York with our new van (1300kg ) at 50mph = 20mpg, towing there at just over 60mph = 18mpg.
Then again last weekend I replaced the intercooler as it had a 50mm+ split in the end seam, loosing lots of boost pressure.

To make matters worse, we come back after two weeks, spend 5 days at home, then drive down to Saint Tropez with the van for a "holiday". Gill will have no truck with leaving the van in France - it needs to be unloaded, made more spotless, and reloaded.
We have Caravan Club relay if the car breaks down, they wouldn't cover Gill if she has cancer, so she hasn't got it and we will rely on EHIC. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
