Old Postal Route - Cederberg South Africa

Took a leisurely 2 day solo trip last week and finally tackled a route I've been longing to do for some time

Grade 2 trail that the Freelander simply excelled in - did not see another person for the entire duration of the trail

Beauty of solo travel to faraway places are the interesting ppl one meets - in this case I spent a morning with a 84yr old artist who had life stories while we were exploring old bushman paintings close to our campsite. A truly magical morning I will not forget easily

Very nice, sadly in the UK most land is privately owned, and BOAT (Byeways Open All Traffic) are a dying breed, or as is often the case a BOAT has been blocked off "accidentially" by the council with concrete pillars to spoke pikey type people driving down them and parking up.

Epic! Clearly you have just confidence in your Freely 2.
Cheers!

yep, I do trust her

Had to climb 2 nasty rocky steps that I thought might pose problems but she didn't even spin a wheel

At the end of the trip, I took this pic just because I was in awe of my Freely and that beefed up look with the lift and AT tyres

I agree that the Freely2 is a great compact 4 x 4. If only Land Rover had stuck with the concept of a vehicle with proper off road ability instead of investing everything in style over substance. Their Special Vehicle Operations team could easily have produced the definitive small off roader - a lift for the suspension, bigger tyres, a bit of underbody protection, beef up the electrics and final drive and add H/L gearbox and nothing could have equalled it. The development costs would have been minimal, the profit margin high and they would sell across the planet to everyone who wants something fit for a more demanding purpose than the Chelsea school run. Instead they turn out ever more ridiculously expensive cars which no one would sensibly take off road. Once the bling market is saturated with Bentley, Porsche etc taking enough sales off Range Rover I think Tata may start asking why the brand has lost it's identity.

Greetings. Where does the trail start and end? I also imagine that during the winter there will be snow?

Trail can be tackled from either the Tankwa Karoo side or from the Bidouw Valley, Cederberg

Rivers are not passable during winter and I was somewhat concerned since we experienced a massive storm a week before with flooding but my concerns were unfounded with the main river still dry and just enough water to wet the tyres crossing the Tra Tra river

Great photos!
I was wondering where in the Cape you got your lift kit done and if it was at all expensive?
Does it influence on-road handling?
I am definitely adding this route to my to-do list!
cheers

Spacers are made by a guy in Gauteng called JJJ on the local forum. Check the.4x4 forum for full details

And road handling is not affected too, so a great upgrade
