Hi there, looking for a bit of spare wheel advice. I've not got a spare wheel and as we're planning a drviing holiday this summer thought it might be a good idea to get one or should I stick with the Holts tyre repair/the Continental repair that comes with the car.

Has anyone used either of these? Do they do the job for a short term repair?

I've had a look in a couple of scrap yards for wheels but no luck. Where's the best place to get one? Any ideas in Scotland would be welcome. I'd also need to buy a jack and wrench.

In my old Disco there was a storage space for the jack, is there one in the Freelander.

My car's an 07.

Get a proper spare wheel & tyre from ebay. Search for Freelander 2 wheel & tyre. Some are even being sold with the correct jack and wheel brace. Although a suitable scissor jack plus a universal wheel brace can be obtained from a local motor factor. The jack is stored under the spare in the boot. Do a search on the forum and you may find a picture of the exact item. Whatever you do, don't rely on repair kits! FL2 wheels can be 16" to 20" diameter, I suggest you get a spare wheel the same diameter as your originals.

I'd never trust that repair gunk.
Anytime I've used it (on other people's Tyres) it's never worked!

I've even taken it out of my mountain bike Tyres and put tubes back in place.

Horrible stuff.

As said, get yourself a spare wheel, jack and brace.
But make sure you do a dummy run to make sure everything works ok.
I bought a jack etc for the last car I had and when I did my dummy run it didn't work!
Because the car was a low slung sports model, the Jack wouldn't lift without touching and potentially damaging the side skirts.
That allowed me to adapt it in readiness for whenever I'd need to use it.

Btw, nothing wrong with keeping a can of gunk along with the jack and tools FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

I got a jack and wheel brace like new I don't need i gave £50 for it the proper thing to go inside the wheel just have to workout the postage if you like. Ian

Agree with all of the above - get a spare wheel - that gunk may be alright for a backup to a real wheel
Look on Gumtree I've seen a few on there this year

No spare with my (new to me) hse just gunk and a compressor,
bought wheel exact match of e-bay (still in box lr number on it and on box never opened )
had new matching tyre wrangler put on local ,total sub £300 dealer wanted £389 + vat for wheel alone ..!! )

gunk and compressor no use when tyre shredded on back road miles from know where .....
try getting a tyre at 2 am in Llandofgodknowswherethisplacemightbeindaylight Dip yer hand in yer wife,s purse and get a real spare .... tyre that is  Wales
Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper.

Keep an eye on the "for sale" section of the forum. Lots of wheels come up there, sometimes spares, sometimes singles. I have in the past bought a set off e-bay, kept one and sold the rest on at a profit. Also gave away a steel spare to a forum member once (sorry, that was a one-off!). One option is to buy a set of four with c**p tyres and put winter tyres on them. You can use one of them as your spare, and use one of your summer wheels as a spare in winter. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Spare wheel and tyre is the way to go. As an example - came back to the Freely after dinner out on Christmas Eve a few years back. Rear tyre flat - big nail through the sidewall. Without a spare that would have cattle trucked plans for the Christmas holiday motoring! Not so easy to find a tyre retailer open on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Forget buying a standard scissor jack, go down to Machine Mart and buy a decent bottle jack!

It certainly does! It mind be pretty hopeless as a jack, but at least it fits nicely

Although there's nothing special about jacking points and I'd rather use a decent quality jack, with plenty of capacity to spare, placed under something properly structural.

I generally use a socket and t-bar. You'll need a socket anyway as the wheelnuts should be properly torqued up when you change the wheel (98lb/ft). A short extension to go with the socket is also very helpful. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
