Bit Miffed

Cleaned the car today to find this at my tailgate

This was repaired shortly after I got the car under warranty and a gasket was fitted under the handle to stop the issue happening again. Clearly the paint wasn't done correctly. Have emailed LRCS to see where I stand as I can't just nip down to my local dealer any more as its miles away. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it

thing is with rust you will never get rid of it unless you cut out the rusted metal.

a lot of people will disagree but it's a fact.

Thought I'd follow this up. Ryan from LRCS has been excellent and the purchasing dealer is arranging for this to be fixed by their body shop who did the work originally. The dealer feels the body shop did not do the job correctly and thus is not a warranty job but is a job for them to do again. Learned to drive in 2011.

I think it's 6 years. But as this isn't really manufacturing or part fault, it is down to the body shop who didn't do the job properly to rectify. Learned to drive in 2011.

My hands up. Just been to have a look and guess what? Have what looks like the beginings of some bubbling under the handle. Thanks for the heads up. In exactly the same place. Hope you get yours sorted. Mine is well out of warranty unfortunately.

So I know what I'm doing on Sunday (Snow due and local brewery opening tomorrow).

Anyone know how easy it is to remove handle?

On your 2007 model: Open tailgate; Remove 2 screws in inner handles; Carefully pull off inner tailgate trim; Remove 4 nuts holding handle; Disconnect electrical connector; pull handle off.

I have just done it recently to get to the tailgate switch. Yes, found rust too Big Cry considering a facelift handle to add whilst the paint pot is open. Whistle 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Cheers Bob, Looks like this might be quite a common area for rust. I don't see much about rust on the FL2.

I have been thinking about touch up paint. Where did you get yours? I would imagine it is pricey at the dealers.

Presently I just cleaned it up a bit and gave it a coat of clear lacquer from another touch up kit I had in the garage. As the facelift handle comes in primer I will get it sprayed to match at the same time I get the tail gate repaired/resprayed as required. My use of the phrase "whilst the paint pot is open" was alluding to getting both jobs done together.

NB: I see yours is Stornoway too. Trying to dip your wick in my pot were you! Rolling with laughter

Hi all, got round to removing tailgate handle today. Easy enough, just have to be brave with the panel when removing.

What a c**p design. Thin edge of plastic moulding rubbing directly onto paintwork of the tailgate. Add in all of the road dirt that gets thrown up at the back and runs down off the window and you have a ready made sanding block. Half of Blackpool beach fell out when I removed it.
Luckily rust was not as bad as I thought so, as a temporary measure, I have treated with some Kurust and a quick coat of clear lacquer (thanks for that idea Bob, now no need to dip my wick in your pot).

Chuckalicious, in your post you mentioned having a gasket fitted when the rust was first "fixed". Was this a LR part or something made up by the body shop? If there is one available for MY2007 I'll buy one. If not I'm going to make one from some thin silicon rubber or similar. Has to be better than letting the handle sand it's way through the paint again.
