Land Rover extended warranty

Has anyone successfully had a Haldex unit successfully replaced under the LR extended warranty once the car was 4 or 5 years old? I've read the small print but it's a bit conflicting. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Not haldex but I had the transfer box, gearbox and rear diff done at 4 years. Never had a quibble over extended warranty and just renewed at 70k 5 years for another year. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Dorsetfreelander - any views on the level of cover offered by the two warranties LR offer? The cheaper one is called 'select', I believe..

I was sent a booklet to renew as below, it's a bit vague but basically the extended warranty is the same as you get during the first three years of a new car. The select gives them some wriggle room to turn down the claim (especially in the area of diagnostic work I guess). For my car at 70k miles 5 years old the two costs quoted were extended £795 or select at £505 (plus LR Assist at £150. I looked at Europe wide AA recovery and my quote was £137)

Yes it is expensive but for the last two years with two vehicles (each with a 2 yr ext warranty at point of sale) the total cost of repairs/diagnostics would have been well over £4k and no quibbles. Also had LR Assist at home four times. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

One further point, when you call out LR Assist a guy appears with a van with LR Assist written all over it and the guys know the vehicles. My son called out Porsche Assist when the battery on his 911 Carerra packed up and an ordinary AA guy appeared who didn't know much about the car and just did some generic testing (but perhaps that's a reflection on the fact that there are more LRs than Porsches around - or perhaps they don't break down so often) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Thanks. Am trying to work out if the cheaper one would be good enough. My car is similar in age to yours and I got the same quotes.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Lago Grey

Owned my 2009 HSE from 3 months old and had the dearer extended warranty after the three year warranty ran out. For me it was piece of mind most things are covered. So far had a new rear brake caliper and disk, transfer unit, two turbo hoses, sat nav screen and tailgate handle. Still cheaper than buying a new car which does not offer me much more than I already have Very Happy

Re: Land Rover extended warranty

I found their select used warranty a waste of time. I tried to claim on it when our landy was around 5 years old. Noisy front wheel bearing. Wasn't covered, as not an mot failure lol. Ended up replacing the bearing/hub myself. Blocked fuel filter, not covered either. Neither would any diagnostic work at the dealers to diagnose these faults have been covered. Landy has now gone.

Had the select warranty on my last FL2. Not much went wrong, but it did cover replacing the horns when they both stopped working and also the usual steering rack problem. Did NOT cover the aux belt tensioner. I was not charged for diagnostics, but I don't suppose the above faults required it! Had the warranty work done by JLC in Herne Hill, who were very helpful.
I'll probably take out the select one when current car is three years old in June. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
