Freelander SD4 with twin axle Lunar...advice sought

Hi All,
Just popped over from FFRR. I'm giving a FL2 some thought. I have a TDV8 full fat and it's great but as time marches on I am thinking about a downsize, cost is key too !

I tow a Lunar Lexon 650. We don't load it to the max but we do cover some mileage, mainly UK but also into Europe. Last time I put it on the weigh bridge it was 1664kg.

I really like the FL2 and this isn't the first time I've thought of getting one. I've seen a really nice SD4 HSE on a 62 plate with 22k on the clock.

Anyone else towing a TA 'van with a FL2....how does it tow?

Cheers all Thumbs Up Still looking, but not leaving the Oval just yet

Thanks, that does give me some confidence.

Have you done anything to assist the towing? remap, heavy duty springs etc ?? Coming from a TDV8 Rangey so asking lots of questions Thumbs Up Still looking, but not leaving the Oval just yet

I tow a Swift Challenger Sport 636, TA Caravan with mine

I think it tows well, but on my first tow with my current FL2, it had a wobble that activated the DSC, twice, had it back to the dealers and they could find no fault, (or so they say) and its never happened since.

Straight road, pulling on to the motorway, dry, no wind, though they did say it could have been a small car over taking me that caused it, when they saw the footage.

Lost confidence a little, though as its always on my mind with the slightest of wobbles Wink Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

no problem whatsoever.
France every year

I must admit my auto one was better for towing than my manual one but fuel consumption and road tax Poles apart so can put up with manual

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am going to hold onto the FF for a while and see how the FL2 market goes with the DS now selling in numbers....

Did grab a sneeky look at a late Metropolis and thats a nice bit of kit Thumbs Up Still looking, but not leaving the Oval just yet

Hi N1cktdv6 as oldgezzer points out Freelander will cope with your van no problem and like you when i downsized 2 years ago from a RRS to a SD4 i had a bit of a confidence issue and doubted its ability to handle a TA of 1800 kgs but in the end after some changes to my driving style i dont have any issues and find it`s a matter of just giving the car a wee bit of time to wind up and not push too hard on the throtle as it just pushes the revs into the red but if you need to you use command shift to change gears manually, must admit i would recommend the SD4 as its got more go and quite sporty when pushed also has scope for a re-map if you wanted a bit more torque which i did consider but have since decided not to bother as i feel the car copes it was me that needed to change and i can get 27mpg towing.
Best of luck SGB 200 Tdi Disco ( Gone )
