Steering wheel upgrade

Hi all,

I should be picking up my first ever Landy later this afternoon - FL2 HSE.

My only gripe with it is the look of the steering wheel (square buttons on side switches).

I much prefer the wheel I saw on a 2013 FL2 HSE, but anything I like above 2011 is well over my budget.

Is it possible (if I could acquire one) to simply swap the steering wheels over? I do mean if I got the entire assembly, airbag, switches, the lot.

I ubderstand that they have different sound systems (mine has Alpine, newer has Meridian) and am wondering if the buttons will or won't funtion if changed?

I would also like to replace the instrument cluster for the newer one with the screen between the two dials as opposed to that black on green rectangle it currently has - again, could this be a straight forward swap?

Thanks in advance, and looking forwarding to picking your brains as I start to pick up on other little niggles and mods!

Thank you. I don't plan to replace the stereo though - I am hoping that the newer steering wheel will work with the Alpine system Very Happy

Why not improve the existing wheel, get it refurbed, you could get it modded in lots of ways to give it a better look with the existing switches, thicker rim, better leather, built up thumb grips or go for a full contoured wheel

Thanks for the suggestion, I'd probably consider that if my original idea wouldn't be easily achievable. It does sound as though it would pricey though, I have seen the full later wheel assembley going for less than £200 and couldn't really afford to stretch beyond that really at the moment - had to stretch budget for this car as dealer wouldn't meet me on the part-ex value that a previous indie did 2 weeks ago so budget = blown!

I got the car and I do love it. Bit disappointed that the satnav screen is just the satnav though, and that cruise control doesn't have a speed limiter function - but that is just because that's what I'm used to from my previous car! I am still happier all round with the FL2 - but it desperately needs detailing so that will probably be the first thing I do now - time to watch those pennies and save up for that!

I believe ive read here sometime ago the steering wheels arent interchangable between the older and newer styles?
The newer instrumention uses the Evoque wiring loom i doubt its easy to adadpt that to fit either?

I asked exactly the same question a while ago, I also did want to replace the 08' steering wheel with the newer style from '13 model.
There are interfaces available on the marked to do the same in a Disco 3, but unfortunately nothing to swap the FL2 steering wheel.

So the answer is: NO, does not work.

As the last two posts verify - it doesn't work!!
Been there, done that and wasted time and money on the newer wheel.
Eventually got mine retrimmed to my own spec - smooth Napa with perforated leather, thumb grips and made thicker.
Absolutely delighted with it and it feels better than the newer wheel because of its extra thickness. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Thanks to both for clarifying - sorry to hear you had to lose out by finding out the hard way but I appreciate you saving me the expense of trying!

I'll just have to upgrade to a MY15 once this one is paid off - by then they'll be within my price bracket and make do with what I have until then. Can anybody recommend anywhere to get a customised steering wheel? I may buy cheap, knackered one for that task, as this one is a mint condition, so will be able to send away.

Ronp - do you have any photos of your custom wheel, and could I ask about the rough costs incurred in getting it done? Thanks.

Very nice! Hell of an improvement! Mine isn't heated (to the best of my knowledge) - can I just buy a heated one and plug it in or is it more involved than that (as the name suggests, I am a total newbie to Landys)?

Haha, well I am southern, and my parents are both from a hot climate so that's my excuse! To be honest I won't actively seek out a heated wheel, just that one I did just find happened to be so thought it could be an added bonus.

Nice! I bet it is! Having been given a ballpark quote today for detailing though, I think the steering wheel is going to have to go on the backburner for the time being! Ouch! But paintwork takes priority! Still, I absolutely love the FL2!

On the positive side, I have plenty of time, I do plan to keep it for quite some time...
