Newbie wants FL2 purchase tips

Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a second hand Freelander 2, going for the turbo diesel in auto. I have about 25k to spend. Any years better than others? Anything I should be aware of, listen out for?

Australia 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Aintree Green

Hey Adam,
Good to see another Perth guy Thumbs Up
Forget the dealers, FL's are getting top dollar still, stupid prices at the dealers.
They're pretty bullet proof, pinion bearing (not dif) can be a weak point in earlier models, there was an updated part at some stage earlier on in the FL's production. But it something that's either there or not.
My best advice would be to make sure it's not had an accident or any shoddy work done on it.
Infact all FL's I've seen are in pretty good shape so have lasted out climate well Thumbs Up
My advice is stay away from base model with low ICE, low climate as it will restrict any changes you can make with these models. All AU FL's came with Terrain Response/4x4 even base models. MY15

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Will be out in Perth next week for 6 weeks. I guess its a bit hotter than here atm!

My advice (given that I've been a FL2 owner for all of 2 weeks!) is, when you have seen a vehicle you like, get the VIN if possible and, even if you are buying privately, see if the dealer will run the VIN in the Direct Dealer Warranty (DDW) database. (If such a things exists in Oz). This provides heaps of good data including:
1. The build spec (same as TOPix) inc. trim level detail, packages fitted, serial nos of gearbox/radio etc so you can check the vehicle against it.
2. Field Service Actions - this covers recalls (such as Q106 which was a auto box mod in 2011).
3, Warranty referrals and warranty cover expiry 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto - Stornoway Grey - Hers (His, really)

Australia

Thank you all very much for taking the time out to respond with your very useful advice. I will heed it when looking, which commences tomorrow. Not too many to choose from here in Perth Australia (so dollars not pounds) unfortunately, but that wont stop me!

Thanks again!
