I think I may of been shot at!

I was driving back home with no cars near me and something hit the windscreen which I think may be a air rifle pellet. Sorry the photo's are a little blurred but it is difficult to focus on glass.

What do you guys think? I guess it could of been something thrown from the woods adjacent to the road or alternatively something falling from a plane but the size and shape make me a little suspicious. The windscreen on FL2's is certainly tough because the noise when it hit was incredible.

Looks nasty, would have thought a lead pellet wouldn't cause damage on the screen, unless it was one of those plastic waisted hunting pellet......

Certainly some energy involved though, bet it was a fright!

If you believe you have then it should be reported to the police in that area giving time date location etc

Next it could be someone else and they might not be so lucky

Does anyone remember back in the 70's and one of the oil companies started giving away fake bullet hole windscreen transfers at garages? They had to stop as the police were getting lots of calls from people who thought they were real. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Inform the old bill, may have happened before.
Could be some slag who does it often. People rarely report these types of incidents and instead just complain that the Police refuse to do anything. (Which is difficult when no body reports it to them).

I do drive with the armrest up-mines a manual and I'm 6'4" and I've got arms like a gorilla! I found they get in the way a bit for me Very Happy I think I will report it to the police as there weren't any cars near me. I have never seen a perfect circle around an impact before and the indentation is also a little unusual. Couple that with the height of the FL2 and it did seem to be an air rifle pellet as the most likely cause. The bang certainly got my attention-I nearly jumped out the seat.

Might even have been a ball bearing fired from a catapult as the diameter of the ball
would be significantly bigger than .22 pellets.
The lower velocity of the projectile would be increased by the forward movement of the car. Sad

A stone!
Got one myself on the M6 on my way to the office last week. One hell of a bang. The odd thing is there is barely a break in the glass to feel on the outside, just a pin prick, and nothing to feel on the inside. Looks identical to your picture though.

Still, worth a post on a few more forums and a story at a few pubs before you give up on the idea of being shot at Rolling with laughter

I have a small crater-about 2mm deep in the outer laminate. I would agree with the stone theory if there had been another car near me. I'm not saying it was definitely a pellet, but stones tend not to float about in the air on their own-gravity tends to intervene Very Happy

i don't think a metal pellet would do that damage. A metal pellet would go straight through the glass if it came out of a rifle, I had a friend who was stopped by the side of the road and someone driving past threw a ball bearing through his rear window. no chip like that, clean through. shattered the window completely. Plastic pellet maybe, but I'm betting it was a rock also.

Here is a handy calculator for working out the damage caused by an asteroid impact. If you or a micro asteroid was travelling fast enough then it could explain .......
