Wales 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver
Sat Nav & Radio Not Working .

Afternoon folk, Merry Christmas and all that jazz.

I come to you with an issue with my new (to me) FL2. 2007, grey, half leather, lovely machine to drive, makes me a happy man.

However, the Sat-nav unit and radio do not work (bought knowing this, with a discount). The radio has power, as it displays the clock (correct time) and illuminates green, however does nothing when buttons are pressed.
The satnav unit flashes up with the LR logo, then goes blank again, flashes up logo, blank, rinse and repeat ad-finitum..

This logo -

Now, they're clearly both receiving power, but not doing the right thing with it.

I've read about discharging the battery and touching terminals together (not tried yet), and that's about all I can find thus far.
I was hoping that some expert on here would have a nice easy fix that I can do before I have to pay someone else to fix it for me!

Thanks all.

Will.

As it is new to you, have you asked the seller/previous owner for help, and possibly, if it was working? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

He did suggest fuses, but the power getting to both units makes me think otherwise?

It does have a new battery (battery light also lit on dash), perhaps something to do with the issue?

The FL2 has quite a sophisticated electronics system.

If the previous owner had problems, then you really need to specialist help to read fault codes etc to sort out what is causing problems.

If the 'Battery Fault' light is showing, I suggest you start there.

The little Blue Wire seems to get damaged.

If not use search 'Battery Light' or similar on forum to find clues. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Because both sat nav & radio are not working I would check the MOST optical ring. If the ring is broken nothing connected to it will work. It could be a faulty cable, a loose connector or a broken module.

Here https://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/user...etwork.pdf someone posted a very helpful training document that shows how the modules are connected together. It also says that a fault in the MOST network may be recognized by a intermittently displayed Land Rover logo.

To test for broken modules you might need a shunt (partnumber LR019014) which can be used to close the ring, bypass a broken module.

Easiest MOST fibre to get to and the ones that can be most prone to being stressed, damaged or bent beyond the minimum bend radius is the DVD unit for the SAT NAV under the drivers seat (from memory). Raise seat as high as it will go and re-seat the MOST connector and also take a good look at the loom for damage.
Minimum bend radius is important as well cos if the bend is too tight the light signal integrity could be degraded to the point that it dose not get to the next unit on the MOST ring.

Afternoon chaps
Can i throw another obstacle in the way on this subject.

My 2007 SE has a similar problem, radio and sat nav screen work fine, i can get the map screen up no problem and it will stay on display for hours.
My problem is, when i put an address in the unit, it will find the route and off we go, few mins later the sat nav and radio cut out, few seconds after that it all come back on, radio or cd player continue as if nothing has happened and the sat nav is back on the home screen.
If i leave it alone or go to the map screen it will stay on for hours again, until i put an address in and then it will cut out again.

Sat nav screen goes blank and the radio goes green with just the time showing, then returns to normal in seconds. We have played with it for miles and miles and it always the same, just as if the power has been switched of and back on again.

It dont matter to me but i might jog a memory or be the missing part of an answer to the above problem.

Haven't you just given us your first action.

'just as if the power has been switched of and back on again'

Need to look at wiring diagram and check for connections, especially the earth. (if under seat, that could be easily damaged.

If other random problems you might be a candidate for an extra battery earth.

Yeah my thoughts exactly but why only when i put an address in the sat nav to look for.
Every thing work perfect while on home screen, map screen and clock screen, it will work without fault all day long.
It seems that entering an address or post code causes the problem.
I have done the earth thing, to the starter and to the body when it was slow to start.

Workshop Manual

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic32299.htm...hop+manual

Interestingly the above Workshop Manual says

'1. CAUTION: After switching off the ignition, wait for 2 minutes before disconnecting the battery. Failure to wait for 2 minutes will damage the navigation computer.'

Has the Nav Computer (under the seat) suffered during the battery changes.

The Manual contains fault finding guide / table, for codes. Download Manual and then use browser 'Find on Page' function to search for 'navigation computer'.

DIY Approach is try another Nav / DVD unit (under the seat) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thats interesting and an easy thing to do, ive only changed the battery and that was the day after i parked up.
At the age it is, it could have happened many times, plus under the seat leaves it open to damage.
Its never bothered me but i might have a look now.

EARTHING POINTS

More importantly - See Grunsel's post above

Because both sat nav & radio are not working I would check the MOST optical ring. If the ring is broken nothing connected to it will work. It could be a faulty cable, a loose connector or a broken module.
