I don't think the type of spare really matters as long as it's legal - you will only be using it for a short time until the other is repaired/replaced and you'll be driving extra carefully. For my summers on 18" I have an identical Pirelli (I have a set of six, so they just get rotated); for the winter I'm running on 17" Wintrax, and the spare is an identical wheel with same size normal M+S tyre - from memory it's a Goodyear. Obvs if I need to use it I'll go easy on the braking etc. Probably more important is checking that the pressure of the spare is topped up. Put it well above normal to allow for leakage as you can always let it down a bit when you fit it. So far I've never had to use the spare on either of my FL2s. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I'm rolling 235 55 19 Goodyear Wrangler all weathers. Only had them on a few days but loving them so far, 1000% better than the LandSails on the front and the Cross Contis on the back. Whistle 2010 HSE SD4 in Santorini black

I am running Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow on my 18's now. I also have a set of 17's with Avon Ranger Ice winters. Not seen any snow for two winters Rolling Eyes but the ride and grip is better than M&S when I need it. Thumbs Up 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I have always had Goodyear Wrangler All Weather with no complaints.
I get at least 38,000 miles from fronts and current rears have done 52,000 and still have a few thousand left on them.
Mind you, I don't drive it like an idiot. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

When these continentals are ready for change it's the Goodyear wrangler all-weather that's what I'm going for next. Had them on my last FL2 and was really happy with them. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

I bought mine with Goodyear efficient grips (or slips as i now call them). They are maked M+S but absolutely useless in the snow. Bought a set of wheels of ebay with GG ATs on before the winter this year. Not much snow this year but the ATs are way better in what we have had so far. I will swap to full snows/or maybe Nokian all weathet when the ATs are worn out. Keeping the Goodyears for summer where they are fine.

I currently have Nokian winters on, extremely grippy, and wear has been acceptable, they are currently showing 6mm on the built in wear indicator so I should get another winter out of them.
Seriously considering the zLine SUV summer Nokian, excellent wet performance and quiet, although the tread, or lack of will be useless in snow or mud.
Holidaying in France this year so I don't expect to need anything too aggressive and if I venture up Kielder later in the year I can put the winter set back on and prevent using the 19" off road.

I'm rolling on accessory wheels with 235 60 R18 103V - Continental UHP's on front and Good Years on the back (after a good deal on the GYs when I needed to replace them).
