EGR cleaning

Is it necessary to clean the EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve and cooler once in a while?
My FL2 is approaching 40000km and I am thinking of cleaning it.
Any suggestion?

Not a bad idea. EGRs are a pain in the bum and can clog up causing all sorts of hassle. You can either remove it to clean (bit of a fiddly job) or use a spray into the inlet tract. Wynn's do a product for this. John

Can't beat taking it out for cleaning but it's a pain on FL2. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
