United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black
Freelander 2 - Metropolis spare Wheel

Hi all,

Just about to take delivery of a Metropolis with 19" alloys and a tin of hair mousse to fill the tire!!

Sorry to be a traditionalist and having experience of this type of repair system but a spare tyre is the only way!

Land Rover have quoted me £400 to retro fit a tyre, jack and holder. Before I shell out I have seen a local source selling what appears to be the entire kit, (jack, foam insert and space saver plus retaining bolt but the tyre size is 235/65/R17?

Will this fit my car
is it ok to use for emergencies (its a speed limited wheel)
will I harm the car

Its obviously there until I can get it repaired, not for long term use?

many thanks

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

the overall radius of the tyres will be the same so there will be no issues

your 19'' tyre has lower side profile (245/40/19

the 17'' tyre has a higher side profile (235/65/17)

so the side wall difference compensates for the wheel size difference to keep the overall diameter the same

also the 235/65/17 is a standard tyre size for the Freelanders with 17'' wheels so its not space saver

Speak to Dan at Duckworths,

I just ordered a foam insert, jack and wheel brace for a nice price, then look on eGay for a wheel, I'm sure you can do it cheaper then £400... MY2011 Freelander 2 GS Santorini Black

New alloy spare and tyre in the for sale section for £50 sounds like a bargain.

If you can get a cheap alloy, preferably same diameter, but that's not essential, you won't have to worry about speed-limiting. I keep a look out for any wheels going cheap - perhaps a bit over the top but I have 5 matching wheels/tyres for my winters and 6 for the summers. Changing them around twice a year I suspect they will last as long as I keep the car! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
