Front end knock

Reached 50K miles and it is now starting to fall apart Whistle

I have got a knock / creak from the front end - suspension / steering? It happens when either going down hill or braking - i.e. weight transfer onto front compression of suspension and then steering from a straight ahead position. IE when you turn the steering in either direction going down a steep hill you get a knock sound. It happens at any speed, sounds worse when very slow, but this may be just due to less road noise.

Any ideas?

My thought was to see if garage could replicate it by strapping down the front end whilst on four post lift and see if they can replicate the noise whilst stationary?
I could try it at home by bolting a tie up ring to the work shop floor and then ratchet strap the car to it!! 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

Sounds like the anti roll bar possibly, that would be my guess anyway?

My son had very similar to this a couple of weeks ago, we discovered a load of mud and stones trapped around the anti roll bar and steering arms. He does a lot of off road work. Do you? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Most likely if its due to wear its the drop link bushes for the anti roll bar, they seem to be the first thing to wear on most cars??

Roll bar links used to ware really quickly on FL1's esp early in the production run. Not yet had a problem with them on FL2.

Could well be mud / stones. There is quite a lot of field underneath Whistle

Best get underneath with pressure washer 1st before I make a d**k of myself with the garage. 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

Gave it a good clean up underneath. Knock noise is still there, so it is going into stealers tomorrow to see if they can diagnose it. At least it will give me a chance to play in a DS for the day - not sure if that is going to be a good thing or not?? 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone
