Squeaky jerky mirrors

I know it has been mentioned on here before about doors mirrors squeaking and jerking as the fold or unfold.
Well it's just started happening to me and I solved it with a good squirt of silicone spray into the join, both when folded and then unfolded.

Fold and unfold the mirrors a few times and behold. The noise/jerkiness is all but gone!

I dare say it will need repeat sprays every now and then. Thumbs Up

yeah, you'll keep it a bay for a while with the spray, although winter an washing may bring it back. once it gets really bad you get them changed under warranty, well thats what happened to me ....

I've had this issue with both my mirrors and used some Silkolene spray penetrating oil in the joining surfaces and it's quickly cured. I don't expect it to be a sign of wear, more a lack of lubricant, so regular maintenance should ensure a long life. Don't squirt in too much though - you don't want to drown your puddle lights! If it gets too regular, I might look at getting them apart to apply a stiffer grease. Maybe the dealer ought to do that for us come next service?? Whistle

I had the same problem earlier in the winter, but I have not done anything with it. The squeaking and jerking have disappeared by itself.

Yes, mine was a bit intermittent - no doubt a combination of cold/damp/grime - but a bit of spray seems to eliminate it. I'd rather take 'remedial action' since the juddering can only stress the motor and cause premature wear on the bearings, which are no doubt plastic.

I was advised on here and it seems to work not using WD 40 but silicone spray is very good,」2:99 in Aldi just now too.

My mirrors seem to judder a little, should I give them a spray anyway?

It does work a treat, however beware:

Leave it overnight, and before you set off the following day, go round the base of each mirror unit with a paper towel and mop any excess where it has pooled. Otherwise, you will suffer the same fate as me, and when you drive off and get up to speed, will have a nice trail of the stuff down each door in a diagonal drizzle. Makes Black look awful!! As above - WD40 and a cloth.... I also worked the mirrors a few times as well....

Also when open you can push them forward to get a better access to the internals.... Handy.
