Noisy rear end

Hi guys, my 2009 GS auto seems noisy from the rear end on the road, sounds like a wheel bearing, but it has had both rear wheel bearings changed, new recon rear diff, just had rear discs and hand brake shoes due to glazed discs and shoes, i am at a loss as to what it may be, Rear tyres are also new, noise was present befor all this work was done, any ideas,,
On a wheel free ramp and a chassis ear it all sounds quiet,
Really stumped

What is the noise like? It is not unusual for tyre ware to sound similar to mechanical issues.

What tyres have you got on it?
I had some "mechanical" noise from mine with Wranglers fitted - changed wheels and tyres to Pirelli - noise gone No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Not had the issue myself with tyre noise sounding like mechanical problems and there has been quite a bit on here about that, may be worth a search. Sounds can be difficult to pinpoint where they are coming from sometimes so it could be your front tyres I suppose. I think there was a suggestion recently that you could try swapping the two fronts with each other, as there could be a different ware pattern this may alter the noise if this is your issue. Keep us updated.

We had a rumbling noise from the rear which was present on all road surfaces and at all speeds, similar to you it was put on a ramp with chassis ears but was quiet. it was traced the shock absorbers and both were changed, which cured the problem.

Its definitely from the rear? noises in cars can appear to be far away from where they actually are and travel around the body as it acts as a sound box?
Have you tried driving it with the rear seats down whilst someone lays down in the back and tries to locate exactly where the noise seems to come from, sitting in the drivers seat isnt always the best place to be?

Hi
earlier this year on a long trip we noticed a high level of noise from the rear. Eventually went to our local independant and he found both front wheel bearings were shot. I could have put money on the fact the sound was coming from the back of the car. Bearings changed all quiet.

I too had a noise from the rear which turned out to be a failing transfer box, which is nowhere near the rear. I too was convinced the sound was behind me. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

I've always had trouble with a noisy rear end. Best solution I can offer is to light a scented candle in the room if you are expecting guests to visit. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Or buy a "Blamehound"!

Hope OP manages to find the source of the noise. Round this neck of the woods you can't find a decent even stretch of tarmac to work out if anything's humming or vibrating anyway which makes diagnosing anything interesting! FL No 1 - 2012 (MY2011) XS manual Firenze Red - Gone

You can buy a warning sign for that, like the caution wet floor ones, maybe you need one of those too? Laughing
