Hello everybody. I want to share my experiences and my views on the Land Rover Freelander 2. I am an owner of Freelander 2 since 2011. Over the years of ownership I done a lot of modifications. I will try to gradually share the information in this topic. Yet I make a brief introduction and description of the modifications.

1. Installed a full BBlock body kit Freelander 2. (Front and rear bumper, grille, side moldings.







2. Installed the front seats from RR Evoque.



3. Installed the Milltek sport exhaust.



4. All optics replaced by restyling. Headlights modified.



5. Make chip-tuning 215hp/480Hm.



6. Strut bar from RR Evoque.



7. Installed paddle shifters from RR Sport.

Wow! Look great, not overdone with "taty" badges everywhere!
Front end looks great!

Some serious and unique modifications there.

Surprised though you haven't gone for tinted 'black out' windows to compliment the look.

Oh, and the door mirror conversion........ ?

I install RGB diodes in signature lighting instead of white. Now I can change the color from the panel. But it's just a toy).

Not a fan of the bumpers but the overall black styling is very nice plus the red lights are really very slick. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....

Ok, I will start from paddles shifters).
This instruction is only for cars 2006-2013 year. Since in these years this option has not been active. Since 2013, it can be made much easier). Like westville wrote.

To connect the paddle shifters you must address three main objectives:
1. Fix the paddle shifters on the steering wheel and cut a holes in the steering wheel rear plastic cover pad.
2. Add an optional loop wire in the steering ring.
3. Connects to the selector lever (gear shift).

Immediately warn, programmatically connect paddle shifters to the gear shift is not possible. You need to translate all the switching signals from digital to analog, bypassing all electronics.
The basic idea - is that in sport mode shift using the buttons on the steering wheel duplicate the shift lever + -.

Now in order.

To fix the paddle shifters on the steering wheel can be done in many ways. I chose this one to use materials that were near me. I took a piece of aluminum and made of it a corner. See photos, nothing difficult. All done by eye).









Then you need to cut a holes in the steering wheel rear plastic cover pad.
I did this with technical knife, so lines are straight. The plastic of cover is thin, so it was not difficult. See photo.





Next step you need to add loop(plume) wire to the steering ring.
To do this, you need to buy a steering ring from the Freelander, it can be used. You only need loop with wires from it. Then you have to set it in your steering ring. Do everything very carefully. Memorize the position of loop, maybe even take pictures during disassembly. Space to add loop is enough. Stacking loop, you have to repeat all the kinks loop, so it does not break when you turn the steering wheel.
In the new plume, we will use only two wires. This control wires from paddle shifters, one wire to upshift, the second for downshift.





The next few pictures are not mine, but the principle should be clear.





Then there are my photos. There is already assembled steering ring and you can see how I laid wires.





This wire, pictured above goes to a transmission from the steering ring.
The next step. You have to remove the central tunnel to get to the switch transmission.



On the driver's side the switch transmission looks like this.



You need to get an electrical board which is responsible for manual shifting in sport mode. Placement of board indicated on the photo. Unfortunately there is no photo of the board. Manual gearshift mode is performed by a magnet located on the handle of the gearbox. See the photo below. A magnet moving on the board from one sensor to another and change the gear. To paddle shifters could duplicate this signal, it is necessary to alter the signal from digital to analog and to connect wire from the steering ring directly to the board to sensors, not to the board connector(managing board cable).





Now, also need to translate the signals of paddle shifters to the analog signals directly, bypassing the boards. Negative wire (ground) on the paddle shifters I took from the buttons on the steering wheel.





Connect everything and check.



I tried to show the connection scheme as far as I remember, and I understand that. See below.





Wrote as far as I could. Thanks. In fact, this way you can connect the paddle shifters on any car with an automatic transmission that has a manual shift mode "+" and "-".

This is a good topic for discussion. For me more yes than no. This is my personal opinion.
Here's information and photos of installation strut bar.
Fits only on Freelander 2 from 2011!
It will be necessary to cut a little plastic. To access the battery, I have a sliding cover to the left. To remove the battery pack will need to unscrew the strut bar.

OK I admit it .... it's just me!
I just cannot see the use of 'paddle shift' in a Land Rover which is (by name) an off road machine.
Would be like putting AT Tyres on a Ferrari.

Just my opinion.

Good job, nevertheless  FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-
