United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

The first time it happened to me was in France waiting at the lights with the caravan on the back, about a minutes wait, but when I moved my foot to the accelerator I got this dramatic jolt. Has happened a couple of times since that's all(not towing). MY 2013 SD GS Auto

I usually take it out after a minute or so like waiting at lights or a level crossing. Some years ago I was in my company car (auto) stuck in a long line of traffic, I must have dozed off as I suddenly woke up with a jolt as I had gently run into the back of the car in front . It was a Disco with a tow bar on the back so no damage to him but I had a cracked number plate with a hole in it. Very embarrassing at the time and I told my transport manager at work that someone must have done it in a car park. Whistle

I did the same once in my TD5 - was inserting a CD and must have eased up on the brake peddle - it crawled into the back of the car in front - highly embarrassing yes but luckily no damage to either vehicle - Lesson learnt. Jules

I am embarrassed to say that when I first had my XS auto FL2 with manual handbrake I managed to run backwards into the car behind.

As I had up to that point in time had manual gearbox cars, I initially carried on applying the handbrake and selecting neutral.

So when I stopped in heavy traffic in a uphill right turn lane at traffic lights, I first held the car on the footbrake, applied the handbrake, and selected neutral. I then removed my foot from the footbrake, and looked down to check on GPS how far I had to go.

A horn started sounding somewhere, and I looked back up and saw nothing out of the normal. (Remember the traffic was moving past on either side of me) I then felt a gentle tap.

I can only think that the 'hill hold' feature masked the fact that handbrake was not on hard enough, then very gently released itself.

I now hold my car on the footbrake and stay in drive.

Thankfully no damage was done (other to my pride) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I occasionally experience jolts when leaving the car in drive and putting on the e brake and then as I come off the brake pedal it jolts forward. More recently I have experienced it when pulling off from traffic after sitting with the car in drive and my foot on the brake pedal. I always put it down to something not fully engaging like a cog sitting half way between teeth but I have no idea how my drive train works. It seems to happen more after doing a long journey (hour plus) with no stop in traffic flow, and then when you come to traffic lights it plays up.
Thanks though Alex for supplying the bulletin notice. I will go and see my dealer and hear what they have to say.

Don't forget that on even a slight incline the brakes hold for a moment after releasing

They will release when you press the throttle but I have found that is not always the smoothest especially if you hit the throttle hard

Mine only occurs on flat ground and before I have chance to press the accelerator.

That is a valid point to take note of though jenks1950. Freelander 2 XS 2013

Experienced this with our 63 plate; mentioned it to my Indie when it went in for a service last year, They were aware of the technical bulletin so ran a software update whilst they had the car. Been fine ever since, job well done; saved all that nervousness sitting in drive in stationary traffic, wondering if it would jolt on pulling away, or having to move into neutral every time we pulled up

Landrover are Frustrating

Just had a conversation with my local dealer, told them I bought the car a week ago and knew about the software update.

They agree completely that the fault matches the problems that I am having and agree that it needs updating.

But!!!

They want me to book the car in for an investigation at £180+vat to see what the fix is. We KNOW what the fix is, so do they! Is this a normal Landrover Type of thing?

I'm speaking to the garage I bought the car from (Appleyards so not a small garage!) and suggesting they should be getting it sorted - but getting nowhere.

Surely a fault like this should be something a Landrover Dealer should re responsible for putting right? Its only a matter of time till someone rear ends another car because of the fault.

It was only serviced a month ago by the previous owner at Copley. Hopefully they will do it for free.

Following on. Landrover Dealer not interested! Landrover Centre in Huddersfield have said the software fix in not from the UK so wont apply it.

Fed up now!

That's poor, is this something that a post on the Customer Relations thread might jolly along?
