I've seen suggestions that wet performance on all tyres drops very quickly below 4mm. Local dealer told me they won't sell a car with less than 4mm.
Edit - some figures at http://www.rospa.com/road-safety/advice/ve...t-weather/

I always change my tryes at,or before 4mm tread left, in fact I try and change them at 5mm, that way they still have some resale value.

Given the cost of the car, the value of the passengers, its a small price

Question

My logic here is if a person feels threatened running tyres at 4mm why sell them on at 5mm. In a few weeks they are going to be well below 4mm on the buyers car and it then comes around the corner out of control and hits yours nice new motor or worse still hits one of your own on a Zebra Crossing in the wet.

Just a view but, would it not be better to run to 4mm and change tyres then put a Censored big screwdriver through the sidewall. Safer all round possibly Whistle FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Hi Brainzzz - just come through a full pyrenean winter with them and they were just as secure as a full winter tyre and fine in slush and wet. I would say they are wearing a bit quicker than a regular all seasons tyre, so unless you expect a fair bit of snow this might be worth considering?

Has anybody suffered any problems with the rubber cracking in between the treads at all?? as I found this video below.

It mentions an issue of being built in China not Finalnd in the text below the video.

I just want to check before possibly ordering a set.

Im running 245/45/20 Pirelli Verde on my Evoque (please don't shout at me)

what are my tyre options ? they don't need replacing yet but when the time comes any advice would be welcome.

I like General tyres, for their grip and lifespan, but cant seem to find them in the right size

No cracking with my weatherproofs Inbetween tread. The tread blocks are a bit cracked on the edges. This was the same with my gy vectors.

I had a look at the Nokian website earlier, I do not think that they are available in FL2 sizes anymore i.e. 235/60/18 or 235/65/17.

Hi, I had this problem on a D2 I brought, the tyre were cracking and worn down to about 8mm and when I had them replaced I was shown the date stamp on the side, it showed them at 9 years old Shocked the fitter I used did say he's seen new ones delivered that were already into their second year before they had been fitted!! so be careful some of those bargain maybe older than we realise. Both sizes available in Weatherproof SUV range, but not in the passenger car range.

I just ordered 4 Weatherproofs 235/60 R18, the dealer said size is not much in use there for need to wait for one week until he will get them

This week Auto express have published their 2016 Winter tyre test.

Also included was the best tyre from their summer tyre test, and an all season the Nokian Weatherproof.

Officially the result was
1st Continental TS860
2nd Nokian WR D4

However if you look at the results properly, in 2nd place was the All Season Nokian Weatherproof.

Still very happy with mine.

Note, I realise the test was done on passenger car sizes , and we run on the Weatherproof SUV, but same tyre technology essentially.
