Well a puncture has forced my hand. I went into my local Watlings to get the puncture repaired and they failed. Hole too big. "New tyre I'm afraid sir". Damn!
Anyway, they actually recommended Nokians. £135 each though. Big Cry But hey, what can you do when you've only got three wheels on yer wagon? Being fitted Thursday.

Just got my new set of Nokian Weatherproof SUV's. Being fitted tomorrow. Thumbs Up

I was beginning to think I wouldn't get any until next year as a lot of suppliers
ran out of stock. No doubt due to all the good reviews, both personal and the Press.

Got mine from Nordic Tyres up in Lockerbie, DG11 2JA 01576 203020 They are importers for Nokian.
They initially didn't think they would get any until January, but came up trumps.

Excellent service, Would definitely recommend and use again.

Two weather proofs fitted to the front of my car and WOW. They ride much smoother than the Pirelli Scorp zero. The whole driving experience seems better.

I've been using a set of weatherproofs for 2 months now - v quiet and so far excellent in the snow - as good as the nokian full winters on my old Fl1... I also have a set of vredstein quatrac 3s which started the trend for winter biased all season tyres, but the weatherproofs are better IMHO

Another one here now running on Weatherproof SUV 235/60 R18 107V XL. They have replaced a set of Nokian WRG2 SUVs and so far impressed. Don't know how much of it is confirmation bias, i.e. new tyres and a proper 4 wheel alignment on a Hunter rig so it must be better, but very quiet. Also good grip up the grotty farm and forest tracks that grovel along most days.

If they perform and last as well as the WRG2 then will be well satisfied.

Also took the opportunity to replace the spare so now have a brand spankers Pirelli to get shut of.

I am about to order a set of these nokians for my 2wd car to replace the Goodyear vector 4seasons. Before I do can people comment on how they perform on icy roads as this will be the most dangerous conditions my car will encounter. I am reluctant to replace the vectors with a different tyre as they are perfect all year round but are worn to 2mm now.

So I wish to know how they do in dry, wet and frosty roads.

Yesterday morning took the dog out for his morning constitutional, same this morning, so slippery tottering about if he gave a pull to get to a particularly scintillating sniff spot. Sliding about all over the place on the pavement and roads. Got back, fired up the FL2, just drove out, didn't even trigger ABS nor slide on any corners. OK taking it steady based on previous experience, but even so.

Difficult to do a direct comparison with the previous WRG2 SUV which they replaced as the fronts on those were down to a gnats under 3mm, but thinking back to how those WRG2 were on the ice encountered when new, these Weatherproofs are at least as good and possibly better.

A bit subjective and vague but HTH.

Tbh the Goodyear 4 seasons are a good shout too. The French paper L'Argus has done a test where the Nokians came out joint top with the Goodyear. Test included the Michelin CrossClimates, although some are saying the Michelin are the one to go for in UK because of their good dry and wet braking results, for my needs have no question that the Nokians are the right choice.

Also a UK slant, author adjusting the results for his own views imo.

The only problems with the reviews is they do not test the tyres until worn out. My only qualm with the good years is the grip drops off dramatically when half worn, I am hoping the Nokia will work well until completely dead. Time will tell.

Depends what you mean by work well. The wet grip on the WRG2'S definitely fell off around 4 and was definitely off at 3mm. Whether that's a tread depth thing or an issue of different compounds not sure. Last time they were used in snow / ice they definitely had well over 5mm. I certainly wouldn't expect any tyre to retain good cold weather performance much below 5mm tbh.

Update. So I have done about 600 miles on the weatherproofs now (on my 2wd car). I thought you may like to know how they compare to the vectors it replaced.

Weatherproofs.
Appearance: They Look a bit flat even at correct psi, also No rim protector.
Driving:
They feel a bit soggy and spongy, very noticeable on cornering.
Very quite rolling tyre.
Better in the wet, less wheel spin on pull away than the vectors.
On icy roads, unable to notice any difference to the vectors.
Snow, not tried yet.
Fuel economy. No difference.

Vector 4 seasons (believe they were the generation 1 not 2, could be wrong though).
Appearance. Much better looking, they have a rim protector.
Driving:
Felt more stable than the weatherproofs.
As mentioned not as good in the wet but hardly noticeable.
On ice, same as weatherproofs.
Snow, don't really remember, but I did get to the shops.
Noise. Bit louder.
Lost a lot of grip in all areas after half worn.
Mileage, about 28,000 with 2mm ish left. Wore evenly.
Fuel economy, same as nokians, both average 47mpg.

So to conclude. I would pick the brand that is the cheapest as they perform pretty much the same. Bearing in mind the gen 2 vector is now out that may be better.

I've seen suggestions that wet performance on all tyres drops very quickly below 4mm. Local dealer told me they won't sell a car with less than 4mm.
Edit - some figures at http://www.rospa.com/road-safety/advice/ve...t-weather/ Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
