Unfortunately I have not been able to find a fitting answer in the forum history, so I will try to describe my problem accurately.

When starting, the starter motor turns, but the engine doesn't come on as normal. This happens with engine warm and mostly in warm weather conditions, above 25 C -30 C. After random number of starts the car fires up and runs error free.
Car has been checked for fault codes, but none found. Software has been checked by LR dealer (Delta motors - Maasmechelen), and apparently is up to date.
To try to solve the issue I have had the crankshaft- and camshaft sensors replaced. For approximately 1000 km everything was ok,also in warm weather, but today problem repeated itself, again in warm weather.
Am about to go on holidays (to the UK) so am a bit worried to have this problem and possibly drain my battery while trying to start and then get stuck with 2 small kids ....
Any suggestions are welcome, hopefully on short term, as next Sunday our holiday starts.
Model 3.2 HSE i6, 07-2007, approximately 115000 km.

I am afraid I cannot uffer any immediate help with this! However, I also have a 2007 FL2 HSE 3.2 i6 with EXACTLY the symptons you describe. It is booked into my local, excellent LR Independant Specialist on Wednesday (22nd July) which i realise will be way too late for you - but I will report back to you what happens on the day.

There is a software update for warm weather starting issues for gas LR2's (Freelander 2) with the Volvo i6 engine. You should get it done if you haven't already then start diagnosing from there if the issue happens again.

Thanks for sharing, always nice to know you're not the only one with a certain problem.
I'm leaving this Sunday (26) to the UK, so appreciate a feedback if you have any after your Wednesday check up.
You can mention that the sensors I replaced are not the source of the problem.
I will have error codes checked tomorrow, so will let you know if any are to be reported.


@ jutrem, I asked if the software was up to date, and the LR dealer said it was.
Would it be required to specifically check for such an update? Or could I assume that this statement means it is included in the updated version?

If you register for TOPIx, it should tell you whether your software is up to date. At least I think it should. Sorry I can't help otherwise - all the reasons I can think of for your problem (and there are many!) are to do with distributor points, chokes and carburetters, none of which exist any more. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Thanks, found the same explanation, question now is how to move forward.
It seems it could be the ECU that needs replacing; dim chance that it is related to the battery capacity.
A schematic found shows it could be related to the tank evaporation "device/procedure", as there is a 5 hour timer build-in somewhere to activate/reset the ECU again after longer standstill. And, if this is not completely correct, please forgive me, it is how my amateur ears understood it from my local garage guy

Some sites indicate it is a difficult/severe error message that needs addressing short term, as it could stall the engine.

@Paul, would be great to hear if you have the same error code.... but to expect consistency, really ...??

I will let you know what, if any. error codes show up on mine tomorrow.

Not a very successful outcome I'm afraid. They found an error code which reported that an oxygen sensor was "open" They spoke to LR about this and eventually decided it was a red herring. They physically checked over the engine and so I now know there is nothing loose or leaking. They also checked all multi=plugs and all appeared ok. They finally suggested that I take it to the local Land Rover Dealer to check that it has the latest software (remember this is a very good Independent specialist and they do not have the capability to flash new software for an i6!

I will probably take it to another Independent in the area who i know has the capability - but I know the software was updated about 12 months ago and not sure that there will have been many relevant updates since then.

And of course the car behaved itself all the way home this afternoon.

Thanks for updating me, much appreciated.
It seems indeed same like mine, apart from the starting problem it drives very good.
The fear I have is either stalling in traffic with high temperatures or not being able to start repeatedly due to a low/dead battery.

My independent mentioned that in case all fails when trying to start, you should disconnect the battery for a few minutes. This will reset the ECU and should, in my case, clear the error message. Hopefully it should start then.

If you would be so kind to keep me updated? I wil have another try with my garage after my holidays.

Regarding the Freelander 2 i6

Did anyone find a solution to this problem? I have the same thing. Replaced the fuel pump, krank shaft sensor, temp sensor, about to replace the fuel pressure regulator. The only code is a low fuel pressure warning. This is a really annoying problem, I have tried the local Land Rover specialist garages around me and they have failed to find the problem, any updates would be very welcome.
