There's a website called http://what3words.com which you can easily find any location on earth with just a three word reference which you get from the website.

It basically splits the world into 3m x 3m squares which all have different three word references.

"Hi there - just saw this come up on our analytics and very pleased it's made a farming forum. I'm one of the co-founders of what3words, I live on a farm in Hertfordshire and whilst we now let all of the farmland on an FBT (my father was the farmer, not me), for years we have struggled directing people to parts of the farm. For example, where is the septic tank, the electricity box on the edge of the field, the gate that needs repairing etc... now they all have a simple 3 word address. And it works offline too which was very important to us when we made it as a lot of farms have very bad phone signal. Any questions feel free to ask me directly - it means a lot to me whenever I hear of farmers using the website/app! Chris "
