Can't say about software update but confess I suspect not!
My own rear diff replaced recently having started with a low level of whine that I noticed after a tyre change on all 4 corners. Austen at Bell Engineering seems to be the man, certainly did a good job on my car for a reasonable price.
The relief to get rid of that drone was huge, hadn't been aware of just how much it was drilling into my head!
Belated thanks to Austen for the job!!

Ensure you rule out tyre noise first. How old are they and what depth and make ? Not sure a software change would be issued but TOPIX I am told would record such things. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Fitted a recon diff to my FL2 this weekend due to the dreaded pinion bearing whirr / whine. Also did a Haldex service.

Got the parts from Austen at Bell.

Followed all the advice on here and did it on my drive.

Was made a lot easier as I have a motorcycle jack which could easily lower and raise the diff / haldex unit.

If I did it again, I would definitively remove the rear exhaust straight away instead of trying to just lower it.

Thanks to whoever put the drive shaft jubilee clip tip on here !

Interestingly, I also no longer have the driveline clink / dink that many have had. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

driveline clink / dink

driveline clink / dink

I have had a similar drive line clink / dink but I would call it more of a faint clonk / donk (sort of a woody sound)
when reversing and then when pulling forward just one noise as some slack is taken up somewhere.

plus when in France I came onto a motor way slip road and suddenly thought I had a flat tyre lots of banging and vibrations jumped out to check and all was ok drove off and fine ( maybe it was rumble strips). never went back to that road section again.

But a week a later I just came over a small bridge and where it changed to normal raod surface the same if not worse symptoms happened. So much so I thought the tyre had blowout and was banging the body work.
Again stoped looked drove off and fine.
Went back to same spot the next day and it was a smooth ride?? the day before was very hot, maybe the road surface had rippled ??

The car unns smooth as anything all other times not even the slightest vibration

STRANGE ANY IDEAS,

or do I have a drive shaft playing up.
its must be 35 years since I've seen a cv joint ball bearing broken

The LR part number was LR003036 and is now LR054941.

LR only sell it in 300 ml tubes.

You will need 700 to 750 ml.

Its all on here and there is a separate Haldex Service thread - just search.

Filter part numbers are in there too Thumbs Up FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Volvo also do the same filters cheaper than LR, I have posted on this but I would go with Austen as he gives a lot of time to this site and its members. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

It will be either a Gen 3 or Gen 4 so you need to establish that.

For the sake of saving a couple of quid having now dealt with Austen at Bell just get him to pack up parts and oil for you. By the time you run around the garages its going to be the same price or better.

That said this should help:

]I just got car back from having new rear diff fitted.
This is my second Freelander 2, I owned both from new for 3 years.
I am now on my FIFTH rear diff all done under warranty.
I have not seen that Evoques have this problem but they have same parts.
The horror story continues-have placed order for Discovery Sport and they have same back end transmission!
A technician told me the units are made in Germany, and you would think they would have modified/fixed it by now.
I buy my own cars and treat them sympathetically, and having had Land Rovers for nearly forty years have never had ongoing problems like this. I didn't get where I am today by being sensible!

Is your car Auto or manual ? Have you got a lead foot ? 5 diffs must be unusual. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Interestingly, I've had a new diff and haldex service too, and DO still have the clink (which is definitely haldex as it disappears if I pull the fuse).
