2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

update 27th July.

Stack has been removed from The M20 but can be re-instated if situation returns. A contraflow is also to be put in place if delays occur.
At the weekend a DFDS ferry was hit by a distress flare in Calais and all services now suspended from Dover and will be re-routed to Dunkirk. P&O are still operating to Calais but situation very volatile.

Please spread the word to those you know are travelling.

LOL.. back to normal means daily chaos in Calais, which will continue all summer.
And as I posted the latest update, Highways now say a contraflow would be too dangerous, which was the best they could come up with after brainstorming session. God help us all.

Final update as situation is now changing on an hourly basis.

Stack is back in today M20 J8-11 due to many hundreds of migrants attacking the Tunnel terminal in Calais overnight. Eurotunnel had to suspend services yet again. It seems the Tunnel is now seen as an easy option with little security.

The M2 is now getting very busy as people divert but still the best option if you must use Dover. I can see no easing of the problems before end of summer holidays, so if anyone is planning a trip to France, then please use Newhaven, Dunkirk or Dieppe.

Also be aware that Dartford crossing is now fully electronic charging, with no toll booths to aid traffic flow. You will get a hefty fine if you don't pay on the day or in advance.

Welcome to Kent you guys and have a lovely summer holiday. Smile

Apparently another immigrant was killed last night trying to get into the tunnel, Cameron has called one of his Government Load of Cobra's Meetings to discuss the matter.

What happens when theres a million there waiting, it will happen, if they just leave it to go away, which it wont.

These people aren't migrating because they are being persecuted (a small % are which is fair enough), they are migrating because they have been told they get can get free housing and free money and still work/earn if they come to (not so) Great Britain Evil or Very Mad .

Basically they are just greedy scum who are too lazy to work in their own countries or any of the many countries they pass through to get to the channel and want everything for nothing. Evil or Very Mad

IMO there should be watchtowers and electric fences with armed guards who have a shoot first, ask later ROE (rules of engagement)

sorry if this opinion upsets anyone but we live in a country with freedom of speech........................ apparently !!

rant over Very Happy

I 100% agree with that and I've got to say I believe that the French are partly responsible. If THEY stopped them entering their country like WE do, they wouldn't have the problem at Calais. I think a joint oiperation between UK and French army should be deplyed. To see them blatantly trying to force their way into lorries and trying to just stroll into the tunnel requires a tough approach now, not the softly softly one they've been getting. Heads need to be cracked!

With nearly 3,000 km of borders, how would you propose they do that?

^^^^
getting through land locked borders is a virtually impossible task, you will never stop the migrants getting over the borders on mainland Europe.

What there needs to be is a massive tightening and standardisation of the rules governing what they get when they reach a destination. France and Germany keep spouting about the EU and how we are all one, and yet the country by country rules dictating what financial and material benefits each country gives to migrants is different, with IMO Britain being the whipping boy.

Every time we try to tighten the rules, we are slammed down by Brussels (aka Germany and their lap dog, France)

We also need to rigidly enforce the return of illegal migrants to their home country, and with advancements in DNA techniques its not too difficult to narrow down where they have come from.

Modern Germany has achieved what two world wars failed to, the domination of Europe............

all just my own personal opinion of course Very Happy

Come on. They are not getting in via Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Andorra, Monaco or Spain. Most are getting through from Italy near the border with Menton. We all know that but up until recently, France has not been too bothered knowing that they are 'just passing through' to the promised land.

Look, if illegals land here, we do our utmost to determine their status and send them back to where they come. What the hell are the French doing? They should round up every Censored living rough in Calais and do the same, not just operate a 'catch and release' policy. If they are legally allowed to be in France they will be allowed to come to the UK too. They are in France illegally so it is the duty of the French to detemine their status and deal with them. We've done our bit and we've had enough. The sooner the French realise that if they let them in they will become their problem, the sooner they might do something about STOPPING them from coming in in the first place. Prevention is always better than cure.

Pull the plug on the tunnel, stop the ferries and use aircraft to fly the goods in, at least temporarily for now?

Closing all Channel crossings is a nice idea but available airframe capacity wouldn't begin to meet the requirements... Food and consumer goods could perhaps be routed into and out of other ports perhaps (Cost?) and carry people on aircraft (Capacity & Cost?).

As has been said, it really needs the 'transit' states to take ownership of the problem and deal with it instead of leaving to the next state en route to Calais. France in particular need to get a grip and manage the issue but why would they. As far as they are concerned, it is a transient problem that will, left to it's own devices, shift itself to the UK and hey presto, problem gone.

Apart from a fairly well contained hot spot at Calais, France doesn't have a problem. EU rules? Only if they suit for the two largest member states. One wonders how Germany might deal with it if the migrants were besieging one of their major ports?

If its just left to its own devices I can see just being overrun, we will be chucked out of our own country in the end and we will be the ones in rowing boats, and the immigrants here will be using our FL2s left behind. Shocked

I will never forget the two slimy Left-wing toads Straw and Vaz on a PR stunt a few years back, standing at the Port of Dover, "welcoming" new arrivals. Come one, come all.....lets totally overrun and destroy England as the Imperialists remember it....

This current spineless lot are no better on immigration, just listening to Cameron on the lunchtime news would suggest that he daren't provoke or upset the French. And they know it...which is why its a total bloody shambles. Send in the Army, kick the scum back to France and shut the damn tunnel. How difficult is it? Banging Head Foraging near Gaydon....
