Spare Wheel

Does anyone not carry a spare wheel?
Or if they do what sort, space saver, steel, unmatched old wheel etc.

Has anyone ever used the foam kit?

My own inclination is to carry a spare even if it adds weight.

Full sized spare on same alloy as the other tyres - ordered it when I bought the car.
Previous Freelander 2 (2007 model) had a full sized spare on a steel wheel and was limited to 50mph.

I also carry a set of leather gloves so I don't remove the skin off my knuckles winding up the jack. Have had to put on the spare too many times.

Full size on matching alloy. The other options are of no use if needed when towing a caravan.

Have the gunge and compressor, need to get a spare and jack kit. Although we have a metal dog crate in the boot so getting at the spare wheel in an emergency would be fun....

I had a LR assist guy here recently and he showed me that he had a set of spare wheels in the back on his van that would fit any LR or Jaguar. He said that mostly when a tyre goes it gets damaged and the kit isn't capable of inflating the tyre anyway. Hence the spares he has to carry. What does that tell you? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Mine came with the gunge but no compressor so bought a matching alloy don't have a jack or brace though, would just call my recovery service to change the wheel. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

I guess it does not have to be a matching wheel, in style, just the same size.

It doesn't actually have to be the same size. All the standard wheels have the same diameter (bigger wheel, slimmer tyre). The "official" steel spare is always 17". I'm running on 17" Wintracs at the moment, but I've only got 4, so I keep my 18" summer spare in the back. If need be it would get me home. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I've got the steel spare in the boot.
I have just picked up a matching 17" alloy today as I now have different size AT tyres for a little more ground clearance and needed a fully matching spare. Hope it still fits in the boot.

By the way, the steel spare is not limited to 50mph. Its the wheel nuts that limit you as they are for alloy wheels. If you buy a spare set of nuts to go with the steel spare you can go as fast as you want.
