Bearmach shock absorbers

As above, has anyone used these on a fl2, seem very cheap at sub £50, but with a 3yr warranty. Was hoping for bilsteins, but seem to be on back order.

As above , KYB or wait for the Bilsteins. Had both makes and can't fault either , also fitted cheap Britpart ones which were took off as they were faulty and fitted genuine LR .

Hi Mark

did you notice difference between Kyb Bilstein comparing to genuine ones ?

I heard that KYB and bilstein are a bit stiffer than genuine ones

The KYB's were fitted to my wife's 2007 Fl2 and there was no significant difference to the ride , it was a more wallowy Fl2 compared to the 2009 I had at the time which had the genuine ones fitted . The Bilsteins were fitted to my 2012 Sd4 and there wasn't any difference over the original LR ones on that . I would say they were all very similar imo . If I was to pick out of the three , I'd probably go Bilstein.

Bilstein may have a firmer strut than the OEM Bilstein replacement that I currently run both front and back. Give them a call and ask them. IMHO, the Billy rears are firmer than the stock version but I am running 19" summer rims and tyres as well. You can mix KYB and Bilsteins but the same on both fronts, etc.. The LR2/FL2 is quite heavy with quite a bit of understeer, to compensate I always run about 2-4 lbs air pressure lower in the back tyres.

Yes bilstein is a slightly firmer ride, but it doesn't bother me and my wife actually likes it better than the OEM.

You want the B4, not B6. B6 are meant for offroad use so they won't be fun on a daily driver, and they cost a lot more anyway.

Fitted KYB's when I had my lift kit installed.
Come to think of it, I fitted KYB's when I had the lift kit fitted on my Freelander 1 , too !
Springs also need to be in good condition or it will negate the fitting of new shocks.

Thanks for all the replies, talking of the springs then, is there a definitive way of testing the springs. Mine have some corrosion on the rears, but other than that I can’t tell whether the springs are bad, shocks are bad, rubber bushes are bad or a combination of all three.
