Rust Proofing

Sorry if this has been covered before - the searches didn't throw much up but correct me if I'm wrong.

Since the landy has recently celebrated its sixth birthday, I was wondering whether anyone here has already applied any rust proofing to the chassis / underbody areas. If so, did you DIY or go pro, what products did you use and why? Recommendations and advice as always appreciated.

From my time underneath the corrosion seems fair for the age and care that the vehicle has had, and regardless of the original finish on leaving the factory, defects will occur, damage will occur and grit and salt and water and iron will always rust, so what do you guys think - is it a worthwhile investment? I am of the opinion that I should like to keep the car for a good few more years, but I have a tendency towards impulsiveness with regards to swapping, and so cost would be considered prohibitive at anything more than a few hundered. Having said that, my old man has a 16 year old Sharan with 240k mls on the clock and that's only now showing signs of chassis corrosion that requires welding, and that has certainly not been looked after!

Its the current issue 4 April 2015 edition - 3 page guide on stripping off sills, splash guards etc and how to restore cavity wax injection if you fancy a DIY job. They reckon allow 2 days for stripping/cleaning/drying/treating and about £50 worth of products - a pro job they say would cost £200 Td4 XS manual, Orkney Grey, MY2014
