Land Rover LR2 Roof Rack Update

A month or so ago I made an account. I posted about my planned modifications to my LR2, and today I would like to share the status of these modifications.

1. I purchased the factory raised roof rail kit from the dealer and had them install it. I really wanted to install it myself, but after purchasing the rails and looking at the directions, I decided not to. It totaled to be very expensive, but I am very happy with it. It is very sturdy.

2. I decided to go with aftermarket crossbars instead of the factory ones. The factory ones would have nearly doubled the cost, so I just purchased some cheap, no-name brand crossbars for $45 on eBay. These crossbars are OK. They look nice, but I would not recommend them. They are cheap construction and will not support much weight. The locks are already broken. I plan on purchasing the Yakima Rail Grab kit in the near future.

3. I added a Rhino Rack ski/snowboard rack on top of the crossbars. In the winter here, I snowboard so it is very useful. Also, this rack doubles as a fishing rod rack, which I will use in the summer. The rack does make a lot of noise on the interstate, so I take it on and off as needed.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the roof rack on the LR2. I think it adds to the look of the LR2 and is very useful. Below is a picture of my LR2 with all of the rack components on it from my recent snowboarding trip to the North Carolina mountains. I would really like to also buy a bike rack and roof basket in the near future.

Canadian member here. Nice roof rack! I'm running a Thule cross-bar mount right now (to carry canoe, etc.) and my ski attachment. It was much cheaper to get the Thule rack that clamps on the door handles than to get the full LR rack (even though the LR rack looks better). In the long term I'm thinking of getting a Thule ski box to reduce the wind noise Razz
