United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Could be rust on rear breaks if you are not driving it regularly, best to get it checked though if it going in to the garage.

It gets driven every day - but I suspect that it was sitting about for a while before we bought it a few weeks back. Rust from that may be an issue

I'll get them to look at it when it's in for the cable then

Some progress made by my apparently bored partner Susan yesterday. If she's not redecorating the house she's modifying something on the car Laughing

Admiring the idea, if not the chosen colour.
Wondering why didn't you go for Bali?

or was that a compromise between both of you of Bali and Pink Laughing

The original plan was Bali, but once inside it looked too dull so didn't match at all

This actually isn't that far off, the pictures make it look a bit lighter than it actually is. Plus she likes it Laughing

Some more progress over the last few weeks

After always recommending Nightbreaker headlight bulbs I've had another set fail well within 6 months, so I've abandoned them and moved onto these new Halfrauds Ultra bulbs that sound good on paper, so I'll report back once they've been in a few months

Cursed with big hands changing them out was a bit of a faff

Also the handbrake cables have been replaced, so it now works again!

I'm still getting a bit of a squeak from the back for a few miles first thing in the morning, so that requires a bit more investigation. hopefully just the tensioner that needs lubricated or something

Some more progress

Firstly a new TravAll dog screen in preperation for the new puppy. Easy to fit, perfectly silent and a fraction of the price of the others available Thumbs Up

Then someone was kind enough to drag something down the side of the rear door and quarter... luckily it polished out with a bit of effort Rolling Eyes

While I had all my equipment out I decided the de-badge the rear a bit

The XS is now gone too, looks much better de-cluttered

Then it all went a bit drastic...

The most terrifying thing I've ever done to a car, especially since it was permanent Laughing

So far I like it, a quite a few people have commented on how much better it looks from the front. Just got the rest of the HST kit to fit now

Night breaker bulbs are great Thumbs Up

If you look at the back of the packet it does state that the lifetime of these bulbs are half compared to the standard bulb

Since it's been all quiet recently I knew it couldn't last Laughing

following on from

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic23946.html

I charged the battery over a weekend and the blutooth issue seems to have vanished, but the stop start hasn't worked since. Combined with my dash cam (now running 24/7 due to increasing theft in the area) the battery is definitely on it's last legs.

The other morning another fault appeared on the dash (DSC I think it was) - research into this points at yet another sign of the battery failing.

Looks like it'll be needing a fresh one very very soon Sad

well yet more electrical issues

The drivers door is now refusing to lock. it seems the only way it will lock is to lock all the other doors, wait about 30 seconds then try and double lock it - which of course is no use of the dog is in the back Rolling Eyes

There was me thinking that a modern LR would be more reliable than my old 2001 Defender... how stupid of me Laughing

And as an added bonus there's some sort of issue on the back right axle. It sat for a few weeks and developed a grinding noise that got louder when turning left. Took the brake caliper apart and it was more or less seized (I'm amazed this wasn't found during all the handbrake cable issues) so sorted that out. Now it only seems to do it slightly first thing in the morning but goes away after about 5 miles.

Any ideas what else it might be?

Right lads - one fault down and another one to add

Stripped the drivers door down following the pictures posted in another thread for the issue and swapped the locking motor for a new one I found on ebay for £1.99 Thumbs Up

Works perfectly - well almost, the locking handle inside now only locks and unlocks the drivers door. I'm sure it unlocked all the doors before... but not a problem as there's a button on the dash anyway.

BUT

Today the boot stopped opening Rolling Eyes Does anyone have a reliable source for new switches? I can only find 2013 on versions online

If you own a Freelander you have to expect a few problems on the way, mind you the last car I owned with so many issues was a Morris Marina in the 70's. Must be something in the DNA reliability gene of Austin/Morris/BL/Rover etc that has been passed down the generations. Roll on genetic engineering. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
