In my experience it's a good idea to change the fuel filter too at every service rather than every other one. I have had two FL2's that needed it doing before the due mileage. My local indie always does an engine flush (which dealers don't) and then also puts a can of Forte injector cleaner in the tank.

Who's your local indie in Dorset?

http://www.evansgarage.co.uk/ Good outfit, they have done servicing, clutch, half shaft and throttle body jobs for me over the past few years plus serviced FL1s.

Does anyone know if the original FL2 Haldex is the same one used by Volvo as I have found this on another site. It shows the gen 4 filter on left and gen 3 filter on the right. Having looked for LR parts I can only find the 4th gen version and I need the 3rd gen.

Ok just a short update, if you have the older haldex version LR no longer stock the filter, as you can see from above the old and new are different sizes. If like me your Haldex filter is the later, smaller version you can get one from Volvo, part number 30787687. Searched the net and couldn't get one online in the UK (that might be due to my searching skills!) but one will be with me this afternoon from Volvo dealer. Happy days Very Happy

Sump
I recommend you do NOT tighten bolts, far more likely to make the leak worse from crushed gasket
if they are silicone sealed
get some decent RTV remove, clean and reseal.

Anyone know if the newer oil filter will be ok as the part numbers have changed from 001247 to 030778 and they are different?

Update No. 2: haldex filter from Volvo as discussed earlier filled as per directions in previous post links. I would recommend doing this as the colour wasn't great, although it looked ok in the extraction tube, when you see it in a clear plastic bottle it is very dark. Fitted the new engine oil filter and replaced oil. The job was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be and I had to use the new type filter as the old type is discontinued, does anyone know when they stopped supplying the old type? Checked the oil filter housing and all was ok as there was plenty of spring in the housing, as per this post: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic18979.htm...stop+valve . Transfer box oil extracted and replaced and the 120ml removed as per previous links. Ran out of copper washers (and daylight!), for some reason I didn't get enough so will be picking two up tomorrow for the front diff drain and filler plugs. Test drove, up to temperature and no leaks Thumbs Up . Winter tyres on tomorrow and rest for the afternoon. Very Happy

Update: I have checked all fluid levels this morning and all is as it should be, had to buy some more fluid and washers so I could top up and remove correct quantities as necessary. I think this was worth doing after a few months and several thousand miles as when I did the first fluid changes all levels were lower than they should be and I wanted to check to see how things had faired. IMO I think the low fluid levels is at least partly why there are so many diffs, etc. that go. I know that it could also be to incorrect preload settings during manufacture but think that if the fluid runs out or is lower than it should be then this could lead to premature failure. I am not sure why the levels were low, slight leaks maybe, which is why I checked today and will be doing so on an annual basis.
Hopefully this thread will assist proactive maintenance for other users, any other experience or input would be appreciated.
Rich.

Hi, sorry not able to help as that is out of my knowledge base. I have only replaced the replaceable filter on my haldex unit. If you mean the haldex then all Gen 3's are Volvo as far as I am aware, the filter number is further up the posts.

No problem, but I am not sure if you are changing the same part? Please see the middle of the first page on this post: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic24315.html

It was just a case of undoing the two bolts with an Allen key, but like I said I think you are asking about something different?
PM me if you want and we can have a chat.

You will probably need to ask a Landrover specialist Laughing
