08 SE FL2. Drivers side screen not working. There is a 12v supply going to the tape/wires of the screen as I ran a pair of wires direct from the battery. With ignition off the screen just warmed up in the center, there was a small spark on touching the wire to the battery terminal which would point to the partial heat. Does this mean a new screen.

Having had a few heated screen failures on cars over a few years
I would say yes a new one is required
Luckily 2 were warranty and the third replaced when it cracked after a granite chip flew up and hit it after local council tar and chipped all the local roads.

this may sound a bit daft but on my FL1 the heated screen has two fuses one for the left side and one for the right side of the screen dont know if its the same on FL2 but worth checking

Fuses I don't know, but the heated section is in two parts, left hand half and right hand half, chances are if its not a genuine screen it will be the elements that have failed, the elements in th aftermarket screens seem to be weak.

You might be lucky and something might hit the screen meaning replacement

.....make sure your insurance covers your screen first.....else

Thanks for the replies, might try to take side pillar off to check for a break. Not worth waiting for something to hit the screen as I pay the first £75 and Northwest Windscreens will supply and fit to your home including rain sensor for £260.

Is the Rain Sensor part of the screen on a Freelander 2, never had one changed, but ones I have seen on other vehicles, there is just an area of the screen with a clear circle in the black area and the sensor clips on to the screen

£260 Fitted, that's a very good price, I use a Screen Fitter near me who I used to work with 25 years ago, he now has his own Screen Fitting business, says he can fit me a Genuine LR Heated Screen for £425 + Vat

£260 fitted sounds far too cheap to be a genuine screen!

As already said it'll end up doing the same thing again very quickly if it's a cheap one

Not sure about rain sensor fitting as its hidden behind the mirror base. Re the £260, I made a mistake the quote was £230. For that price its not going to be a genuine Land Rover part but I'm willing to chance it, if it lasts 2 years them I'm good. Fitter is coming tomorrow morning so I will let you know how I got on.

Claiming on your insurance for a new screen doesn't affect your NC Bonus, you just pay the excess. On My TD5 Disco I converted it to have a heated screen by adding the switch, a relay and having the BCU programmed to tell it that it was fitted, only other expense was the insurance excess.  MY14 TD4 manual XS Orkney grey.

The fitter Paul arrived on time and left 1 hour later. My Freelander proved more of a problem than usual although it was a Landrover screen. As the separating cutter was dragged around the screen the laminates were splitting and the edges breaking.
My screen came from Denmark or Sweden. All screens have to pass an EU certification, I believe Pilkingtons also make screens, some of which go badged to Land Rover. (draw your own conclusion).
The rain sensor does indeed clip to the screen. Regarding you NCB in your insurance, I don't think the insurance companies give away free lunches especially if they cost £500.
