they are a bit more sticky than summer tyres, I drop around 3mpg in my 3.2 i6, but putting another 4psi in them seems to rectify this. minimal extra cost over the next 3 months when compared to the potential extra safety aspect they will offer in cold slush, snow and wet - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

I have lost around 3mpg, you can feel,the difference too, at first it felt like someone was pulling back at times, I would swear the gearbox shifts were disturbed also, now they have settled down again.

I'll be fitting my 19's with Nokian winters this afternoon.

Not had any reduction fitting some Yokohama WDrives bought off a forum member nearly new. Admittedly I'm not driving as hard in them so may be evening out compared to the Wranglers I had on before, 40-43mpg as usual.

No noticeable increase in fuel consumption after fitting my Avon Ranger Ice tyres on 17" rims. What is noticeable is the much smoother ride compared to my Pirelli Scorpions which are on 18" rims.

The OP should note that Grabbers are not necessarily "winter tyres", but may be Mud &Snow (M&S) all season tyres. Specific winter tyres are of a softer rubber compound that stays supple at low temperatures.

Grabber is a range of tyres and includes the AT used by a number of us and also a winter tyre labelled the Snow Grabber. The AT is not a winter tyre, and is unlikely to perform as well as a full winter tyre in snow, etc. Mine come off in winter to be replaced by a set of the Avons mentioned in the previous post.

I can't say I've noticed any difference in fuel consumption between the ATs and the Avons, although it may be that both are slightly worse than a 'normal' road tyre in that respect.

I notice that you live in Rugby - did we get any snow last winter ?
Perhaps one day it did snow - briefly.
My point is do you really need a set of winter tyres for the winter weather that we experience in this part of England?
If you lived in the mountains in Wales or northern England and Scotland possibly.
I would have thought that a set of All Weathers would suffice.

Road Toad, you have the same misconception as many others when it comes to winter tyres, and to be fair I had the same thoughts as you.

But having winter tyres is not all about snow. Summer tyres do not operated correctly below 6 degree's and all season tyres don't work below 1 degrees. The tread blocks go hard and don't grip anywhere near as they should in warmer temperatures.

As you know, we suffer with a lot of cold wet weather in this country, this is where winter tyres also make a massive difference to stopping distances, grip on acceleration and gripping the road while cornering.

Winters have a soft compound and stay soft well below 0 degrees. There is also the cost saving in the fact that summer/all season tyres wear more in winter due to not gripping as well, so in my case for example, my 20" summer tyres all locked away now and will last a lot longer for being kept only for summer.

I have had my winters on for four days now, and I can for sure feel the difference in these cold wet roads. Especially under braking.

So if we do get snow, even better!
