Free breakdown cover through insurance or warranty

A lot of insurers offer free breakdown cover of varying levels with firms like Green Flag. Has anyone had any experience with these rather than paying AA or RAC prices? Are they vastly inferior to the AA and RAC?

I ask because my first years warranty on the ST comes to an end at the end of March and I have had a renewal letter from the AA. I continue to receive breakdown cover FOC until the end of the warranty but from now on it will be via some less well known company (don't know who, maybe Green Flag).

AA cover starts at £63 according to the letter but as the car has been reliable throughout, I am reluctant to pay for it. I am curious regardless though so can anyone offer their views on the less well known providers?

I thought that Green Flag just uses a network of local garages is that correct?

A Land Rover Assist guys tell me that they are employed by JLR but paid by the AA and that they get sent to any Land Rover problem or any AA job if they are free. This sounds like if you use the AA you will get the JLR guys anyway if the guy who turns up can't handle it.

With my bank account I now get free RAC cover for roadside, relay and homestart.
So I ditched my AA gold card service for myself and daughter which came in for renewal at £243!
