I had three FL1s and I still think that they look more like a proper off roader than the FL2 which is a bit like a van really. Mind you the ride, handling, noise level etc are much better in the new one.

Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 TD4_e Dynamic Manual Fuji White

Tony Ive still got my FL1 and in winter i.e. now I cannot use the rear boot in the early morning as you are aware the tailgate glass drops down and like a window regulator they are frozen first thing in the morning Rolling Eyes this feature is handy but no good for us in the UK sadly!

Dorset personal choice but for me the FL2 looks like a proper off road machine and is way more grown up with the command driving view and better articulation along with ground clearance . The FL2 was the best of last soft roader a that LR built sadly! MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior
