Lumbar support

I've now done over 10K in my DS. The only real gripe I have is lack of lumbar support on both front seats. Shame there is no adjustment.

As the report says the Tesla comes bottom, but only 18 owners replied, so out of the 1,000s sold it is statistically meaningless.

Then again our Disco sport has had LR Assist out twice in the last 10 months - the Freelander had LR Assist out once in 185k. Granted on both occasions the software was reset without recourse to the dealership, but still leaves an impression of customers doing the development work. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

DS advice

Hi all, wondering if I could ask the forum for some DS advice please?

Looking to exchange our FL2 for a DS (need the 7 seats!) - I'd normally prefer to buy from a LR dealer for the 2 year warranty but found what looks like a good car at a good price elsewhere. Just under 3 yrs old so manufacturer warranty still with a month or two to run and thinking about buying an extended warranty from LR direct (still works out way less than buying a similar car from LR approved).

Garage seems reliable and good reviews etc but thought I'd ask the forum particularly re the LR extended warranty (v the 2 year approved used warranty)?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Don't blame me you asked -

Bigger boot than the FL2, similar drive, better economy.
middle row of seats move back and forwards, so LR have limited the amount the front seats can go back, not an issue if you are average height - sit and get comfortable.
The 2017 versions have an issue with adblue - the sensor that detects "quality" has a software issue, and can only be reset by a dealer or LR assistance - it WILL disable the vehicle.
The earlier versions had the same 2.2 engine as the FL2, with the same level of reliability - but do a long test drive to see if you like the 9 speed auto box with the older engine, it is a very good match for the newer ignium engine.
It will drink about a litre of Adblue every 1,000 miles.
Ignore the 21,000 mile service interval - think more like 12,000 - the particulate filter likes to regen what feels like every 5 minutes and thins the oil with diesel.

All in all a good car, as good as the old FL2? The jury is out in our house, we have only done 20k in her so far, so not had time to get used to her. Marginally better at towing, more capable off-road, but not as comfortable off-road (then again we had done 185K in the FL2 and the suspension had probably softened). Small fuel tank drives me crazy - smaller to allow for 14 litre adblue tank.
Get the feeling I am not a fan of the adblue system? - it's been the only thing in 9 months that has given me any grief. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Agree with above, be prepared for 10000 mile oil changes.

some ad blu issues can occur, not rare on all diesel cars.

Id question the buying of extended warranty, it doesnt cover everything and wont be cheap.

buying a brand new car on finance would possibly be more sensible than extending the warranty on a car you dont know At work

When you say that you “need 7 seats”, is the FS right for someone that actually needs 7 seats, rather than occasional, short distance, use?

Genuine questions all:

Will a car seat and a growing child fit?
Is there enough access for an average sized adult to lift a child in and out of the seat?
Will even a slim adult survive a long journey back there?

I have memories of having a much loved R53 Cooper S where, when our daughter turned just 11 neither she, nor my 8 stone Mrs, wanted to be in the back seat any more, as it was far too cramped and claustrophobic. A laugh for a short journey, but nothing more and it had to go Big Cry

slim adults fit ok, rugby players fit ish, I wouldnt be trying car seats , our kids use boosters ok but the thought of wrangling a car seat in and strapping the little one in, no no , but you wouldnt want the tiny ones right back there and are unlikely to have the need to put them there, As soon as you got rigged up and set off, ' i want a wee wee, so stop and wrangle them out again

dont forget the middle row slides forward so leg room is available, split sliding so variable leg room across the seat possible At work

I recently thought it would be fun to own a mini convertible until i looked at the rear leg room possibilities.

Strange how perceptions work going from RRS to DS felt like we dropped 2 foot. then after a nissan cashcow on holiday this summer, getting into the DS again felt like travelling on the top deck of a bus.

kids hated cashcow more than sitting in 7 seats of DS, they couldnt see out of the door windows, I disliked cashcow as it was made of some sort of recycled fish and chip wrapper, and the engine didnt seem to be connected to the wheels,
Also the radio only played spanish stations and the steering was on wrong side At work

just a thought - does either of the warranties come with LR Assist?

This would definitely swing it for me. OK the car you are contemplating is probably a 2015, so the adblue issues are not the same but only LR Assist or a dealer can currently clear the false codes. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Unless it's changed, LR extended warranty can be purchased with or without LR Assist.
LR Assist technician came to my drive today to sort out the "adblue quality" problem. Cleared the codes, updated the software and cleaned the injector, which I suspect the dealer didn't bother to do last time it happened.
I wouldn't run a DS without a warranty, and LR Assist provide a quicker and more knowledgeable service than the dealers. Not much fun when the dash shows "no restarts in 480 miles" and you are about to set off for Germany! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Thanks all for the responses (and sorry for going dark for a few days). I think we're happy with the car generally and the extra seats are really for little kids so OK on that front, question is more whether to go for 'approved used' or this one (I like the peace of mind of the LR warranty).

Extended warranty seems pretty reasonable (sub-700 for the year) - saving at least 2 or 3 times that in the car price. I guess the question is is the 'Approved used' warranty that much better (I appreciate its for 2 years).

Thanks again
