Say what you see

Does anyone on here use this system?

I have started to use it but find it tiresome, it seems so long winded and then repeats itself, then asks you to confirm what you have spent 5 minutes trying to tell it to action, is there a way of short cutting all the unnecessary confirmations?

Paul

I sat through the voice training, it's pretty good at recognising now, it's just so long winded, if I request it to call someone, why does it need me to confirm all the details....just ring the Censored person Mad

Only used it a few times. Successfully on the way to a hospital for an appointment - it found the right one and began navigating quite quickly.

Otherwise it is too slow with too many steps and gets frustrating. And a distraction.

For the phone, I find pressing the green phone button on the steering wheel brings up the last ten dialled calls list and then I just press the number I want on the touchscreen. Invariably the number I want to call is on the list already. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

It is possible to shorten the process by giving it two consecutive commands and this some steps can be skipped, the one that irks me is the last one "confirm yes or no" I invariably scream at it that I have spent the last 60 seconds getting to this point and of course I want to Censored do it, this is rapidly followed by two beeps and command cancelled!

I hope the new Discovery Sport is a somewhat better system.

Stick the phone in the small cubby area in front of the gear lever, the home button can then be pressed and siri will operate.
You cant invoke Siri from the steering wheel as with previous cars, or at least I haven't found a way yet.

I have found the BMW system to be much better than the LR version, when I have a FL2 loaner I found setting the satnav or ringing someone very time consuming. With the BMW I simply say 'Phone Joe Bloggs' and 9.5/10 it works, if it thinks there are a couple of others in my phone book that sound similar it replies 'did you mean Joe Bloggs' and lists the alternatives. Satnav is equally impressive, simply say ' Navigation Destination Entry' to access the system and then say something like ' 223 Tyburn Road Birmingham' and that's its job done. The LR system (even in the 2013 facelift) is very outdated and i am sure the new system being fitted into the DS will be far better.
