United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Baltic Blue
LRM October '14 - Freelander Article.

Just had a thumb through October's edition of LRM, and at the back is an article regarding the FL2 written by Dave Phillips, in conjunction with Nene Overland and Paul Starmer.

They were trying to find faults that the FL2 characteristically has, and apart from the diff issue, and the odd sticking key in the dock, they struggled to list any others.

They go on to mention that the current model doesn't suffer from rust at all, and summarise by stating "its about as close to perfection as any Land Rover gets when it comes to reliable, stress-free motoring."

So anyone who has had any doubts before purchase...read the article through...its what us owners have (mostly) known for quite a while now. Very Happy Foraging near Gaydon....

So they overlooked the slipping clutches, faulty steering racks, problems with water getting into the tailgate switch and wiper motor, delaminating brakes, haldex failures, sticking handbrake adjusters, etc! Smile

The information they have will be different to what is seen on here, of course, when there is an issue people holler about it but the results are a little strange. Then again, written by people who make a living from aftermarket sales they may well be a little positively biased Whistle

No mention of fuel gauge/pump problems, or turbo failures either then?

By far the biggest issue with any Land Rover model here in Switzerland in my experience is the "quality" of the Swiss LR dealership network. Her Ladyship's FL2 has suffered some shockingly poor maintenance and servicing; with despite all their noble words, their after sales "Customer Service" comes from the same mantra as that of Ryan Air Sad

There is one notable exception that I am aware of "AutoBrit" in Geneva but they are of no use to us as it would be like living in London and having your car serviced in Edinburgh. (naturally there could be other centres of excellence in CH but I've not found them or heard of them) So after 4 painful years and a number of Swiss official LR dealerships her Ladyship's FL2 is cared for in another country Liechtenstein - only the other side of our mountains but 130kms round trip.

Superb customer service - 'phoned me early yesterday morning regarding Monday's MOT failure advising that the Swiss examiner had no authority to fail the vehicle on the grounds of he being unable to find the VIN stamped on the chassis and the two other matters. Sent me PDF files to prove that the data is indeed in the examiner's computer records, and, will ensure her Ladyship's FL2 goes through the retest at no cost to ourselves Thumbs Up

Best Landy!

Interesting article in LR Monthly, thanks for heads up - a very positive review of the Freely 2. I can only agree with the main conclusion - the Freely2 is about as close to perfection as any Landrover gets when it comes to reliable, stress-free motoring. I have owned 12 cars over the years and the Freeely2 is the best of the lot - plus it is the only one that has off road capability. Love it. I think the key to long term ownership is to find a good LR Specialist and fortunately there are lots of them about so I think the Freely 2 will retain a loyal following amongst Landrover enthusiasts in years to come.
