Permanent power for a tracker

Where is the best place to take a discreet permanent live for a tracker, which I propose to fit myself. It just needs a feed and an earth and a place to hide it - I'd rather be the only one who knows where it is! Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Interior lamp? It can then be fitted in the roof lining perhaps.

Behind the glovbox would be my chosen location, or even put it behind the center console will keep it nice and hidden.

There is a fuse box in the passenger footwell where you can get a perminant feed and an earth.

We have so many problems with vehicle trackers at work I would almost be inclined to power it off battery pack with split charger as it can drain your main battery a few days to the point of not starting .

I've had issues working out how to get all the necessary trim off (in a way i can be sure of not breaking any clips!) so had a quiet word with friendly service manager at local dealer; I don't think he's angling for work but he warned me that connections on some of the live feeds will prevent the FL2 from "going to sleep" as it should. He's suggested that I go in and he'll get his expert to look over my shoulder. Smile Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Would you be able to get some further details on that? Is it only the perminant live connections, or could using power from some of the lives that go to sleep cause issues? Freelander 2, 2014 Dynamic SD4 Santorini Black

Will do, I'll post whatever I find out

I think it's only a concern with those that would prevent sleep. I'm glad he told me about this because I don't want to mess the car up for one thing and it's no good attaching a crime-busting tracker to a feed that has gone to sleep. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Job done with a bit of help from Mike the sparky at Ripon Land Rover. He recommneded taking the feed from a different place and provided feed to an inline fuse for me.
I'm afraid I cannot tell you which 12v feeds might stop the car going to sleep but I suspect the load area power socket is not one of them - what if you're in the middle of an expedition with your fridge powered up in the back and the socket goes to sleep? Alternatively, when drawing a current it might stay live, the electronics are very clever. You might want to disconnect if you leave the car for a long time but if its your PC, you probably do anyway. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Why isolate the fuel pump? The electric fuel pump only serves to even out the fuel level in the saddle shaped tank. It does not deliver fuel to the engine. Isolating it will lower the mileage range but that's all! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

well no the tracker I have in my Motorhome which operates through gsm has the option to cut the fuel supply to the fuel pump which powers the engine, im not talking about a lift pump from the fuel tank to the injector pump but the electrical supply to the injector pump to disable the car remotely via gsm( mobile phone) this thread doesnt seem to be associated with the fuel tank and the two sender units as far as i can see/ edit I should have said fuel injector pump rather than just fuel pump
