Nasty surprise

Came back from holiday to start our '08 F2 up and a warning light flashed up: HDC and Terrain Response fault. Get it diagnosed - it's an ABS module fault and the whole unit needs replacing. The ABS module part is £1200 alone Shocked Thud With labour and other bits and bobs at a specialists knocking on the door of £2000. We took a warranty out with Warranty Direct, so let's see if they come up with the goods. Fingers crossed.

Might be worth looking at some of the ABS refurb outfits on the web. Some of them fix the unit and send it back so that you don't have to introduce a new one to you engine management system . Here is one outfit.

Have you had the car long? Have you spoken to the supplying dealer? (assuming you bought it from a dealer) LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Thanks for this - I'll bear it in mind as I see how the claim goes.

I've had it for around 6 months and it's been fine until this. The chap I bought it from deals in small quantities from home and I had a short initially warranty from him on the car, and the asking price reflected this. So I shan't bother him.

The specialists I took the car to have never had this fault on an F2 and we genuinely surprised and are chasing the claim on my behalf.

So, we will see how Warranty Direct perform. It' a two owner car, full ssh and is only on 54K, so I'm hoping they will meet the costs.

ABS module failure is not common, but not unheard of. Have replaced a few over the years...

I concur.....

Not the same animal, I know - but a missed wheel sensor caused an "ABS Fault" error code on my '06 Ford Focus.

For all intents and purposes it appeared that the ABS Module was faulty and I had garages climbing all over me to perform a walletectomy to that effect.

After some diagnostics with a specialist, all that had ACTUALLY happened was that one of the wheel sensors had missed a wheel rotation detection and was therefore "out of sync" with the other sensors - hence "ABS Fault".

Nothing actually wrong with the ABS Module or the car.

Not suggesting for one second that this is what has happened with your vehicle. Just illustrating the point that an OBD error code shouldn't be taken for granted and doesn't necessarily tell you what is actually wrong.

Nearly . . . that's Warranty Wise - his presence actively put me off.

I'm going to have a clean of a few connections once the weather cheers up ad see what comes of it while the warranty is considered. Interesting video on the net:

Yonks ago had a Mercedes SLK - one day a whole load of warning lights flashed up - ABS fault - a faulty wheels sender - No so bad, but guess what - that fault de-activated the roof mechanism - yes it was down. What muppet thought up that design eh ? Rolling Eyes
Re OP - bet its connectors / sensors as they take physical stick. FL2 Ex D2, D3, RRS, etc. now all gone.

I think Warranty Wise must be a new company as Quentin Wilson did do the Warranty Direct ads. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

(Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding.
