Leave it parked up. Whistle

Have a dig around the site, lots of info but start buy changing all oils and coolant. Add in all filters

If the cam belt has never been done its got to be done PDQ and while at it the water pump also. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Canada 2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Indus Silver
2008 LR2 - Hailing from Vancouver, BC

Hi,
Thought I would introduce myself, Dave, and my vehicle, "Loretta". I bought the LR2 a year ago and have not had many problems with it. A few gremlins here and there: faulty hood sensor - fixed by bridging/bypassing driver's seat adjustment module, rain sensor and recently just put on some new Rotors and pads.

So far the car has been excellent in the snow and up the mountain roads. (I don't even have snow tires on! (all-weather which has not bad winter traction). I still have yet to be able to get Loretta to loose control (and I'm the guy who likes to get my front wheel drive cars to do 360's in the snow...)

Recently the car was in an accident and ever since getting it fixed my wife says that key gets stuck in the ignition and the power does not engage She said that she had to pull out the key from the ignition and try it again several times (can't be good for the car, right?). Has anyone had anything like this happen to them before?

Other than that, I'm hoping to take it on camping trips with my family next summer (2 adults + 2 small children). As well, I would like to challenge "Loretta" with the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route - http://ridebdr.com/WABDR

Mods I am thinking ... lift and bigger wheels. Rooftop tent. I'm sure there are discussions on here for that kind of stuff, but first to fix they key / power problem!

Thanks for having me!

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Loire Blue

Very Happy Just Purchased a Freelander 2 2014 reg Xs in blue only covered 41,000 miles this morning after switching to a Vw Tiguan for a while.
All the time I owed the VW I missed the landy as the tiguans bumpy road handling and poor winter grip was shocking wore out the front tyres in less then 10,000 miles.

One of two thing i am concerned about is the Electronic hand brake do they cause trouble.
the second Who decided it was a good idea to do away with the spare wheel on a 4x4 now I need to go and source one as well.

I rarely use the EPB on mine as its an auto, just leave it in park on the drive or other flat areas. Anywhere I park that I feel needs the extra locking I apply the EPB.

it releases under light revs from standing but your better off getting into the habit of releasing it manually IMO.

I know the brake components are different to manual handbrake cars, so something to bear in mind when having the rear brakes done in the future.

hope that helps a little

Rog

EPB pads are different in size so beware when buying. Cheap enough and easy enough to fit but wear a little quicker than you may expect so need checking by 25K of use. Sequence for release the EPB to fit pads must be followed and is:

Procedure is:

Ensure its in park or neutral and the park brake deactivated and ignition turned on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on immediately whilst still finger on park button and foot on throttle.

6. An audible noise will confirm service mode, it will also be displayed on dash.

You will hear the brake motors activate for a while.

Deactivation

with ignition on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on again. keeping finger on park button and foot on throttle.

Would not want a normal old type PB now.

As for no spare, its the same all over but they come up on here. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

About to test-drive my first FR2....

Hi, I've just signed up to Freel2, having been recommended to visit here from the Landyzone forum. I have placed a holding deposit on a 2011 TD4 XS. The car has done 50,000 miles and has a fresh MoT. Here is the ad. https://goo.gl/6diBZ8. I'm taking a test drive on Monday. I have read much about the diff/gearbox/haldex noises I should be listening for, and hope I manage to listen to the right bits in the right places. Does anyone have any tips for how I should drive (speed/slope/bend/straight..) to show up any likely drivetrain problems? Are there any other frequently reported issues I should look for? Many thanks in anticipation of your replies.

Welcome SkyeGuy! I notice that it has a early version tail light (ie wrong) on the drivers side. Might be worth double checking that it hasn`t been in a bump at the back. Possible haldex problems can sometimes be identified when taking off from standstill with a full lock on. Check service history for details of repairs etc. More or less the same as you would do for any used car. My Freelander has had no issues whatsoever so there are plenty of good ones out there! Thumbs Up

SkyeGuy where does one start. Plenty of info on here if you search but make sure it has a rock solid warranty. If you have a friendly mechanic have them look it over at some point in the first week or so. A service bool stamped up by a Main Dealer would be a good start.

Well noted about the rear lights, its been pranged and done up on the cheap. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
