I have had more than my fair share of FL2 problems but my bother in law has a FL2 GS 09 reg with over 130k miles. Just went through it's MOT with no advisories and he has never had a problem since he bought it in 2010. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I like your persistence with the Freelander.
We've come from a Zafira B Big Cry No fire incidents here but have had lots of other issues.

France 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Good morning all,

I joined the forum last night and feel I may have to interrogate the site about possible gearbox problems.

I live in France but have sold my house so will be moving back to the UK in the future. In France I have needed a vehicle that can tow up to 3.5 tons, so have a discovery 2. I bought this as I have had several land rovers and can't get the green oval out of my blood. Before the Discovery my wife wouldn't drive any of the older ones so when she drove the D2 and like it, I was shocked and distraught as It's my car.

Well times and health have changed. We've sold the house, don't need the discovery but still want to tow a 2 ton box trailer and a single axle caravan. Looked at lots of cars and came up with the Freelander 2 as a possibility. Went back to the UK, primarily to see if we liked the FR2, my wife loved the it and I was quietly impressed. Eventually bought a 2012 FR2 sd4 HSE auto last week from a dealer in Derbyshire and drove back to France. Lovely drive all the way down (700 miles) until it may have started to have a possible gearbox problem Sad . Will have a look at the forum and if I can't find an answer i'll start a thread.

Ian

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Indus Silver

Hi. New member here.
Just bought my first Freelander 2. It is the petrol i6 version and is a great drive. I know I will become well acquainted with the local BP petrol station but life is too short to worry about money!
It is a 56 plated vehicle and done 84K.
I am planning to change the fluids soon and would be grateful for any feedback on the best independent LR garages in the Stockport or Manchester area.
Also is anyone aware of any mechanical or display issues with these particular vehicles.
For example, the range showing on the dash display was showing 180 miles and after driving 40 miles it had gone up to 240 miles! To be fair the fuel gauge went from 8/8 to 7/8.
Finally, the car is fitted with Hankook tyres. Are these standard to the vehicle?
Thanks.

Hi Dambuster and welcome,

never had the i6 or even been in one, but nearly all my fuel gauges have done that and added extra miles onto the range. (I drove to Cornwall from North Nottinghamshire and according to the difference in range it was around 50 miles not 300 miles! Laughing )

Hankook have never been fitted as standard, normally Continental or Good Year I think from factory, but there are plenty of threads about tyre choice on here, just have a search around.

In most cars with a fuel computer the estimated range will increase if you go from stop start driving in traffic to a steady speed on a motorway or dual carriageway. You can sometimes drive 50 miles or so and if you have driven carefully end up with an estimated range higher than when you set off on your journey! Very Happy

Wales 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Santorini Black

Good day to all,
Finally got around to saying Hello despite signing up after buying my 2011 TD4 HSE back in September 2016.
Have had many previous years of owning 3 Disco's and 2 Defenders so quite accustomed to the potential challenges of Land Rover ownership!
Delighted that the forum exists - it has already proved to be a great source of information and advice....I have already been to see Austen at Bell Engineering for a new rear diff and Haldex service....and I have just replaced my tailgate latch as for some strange reason placing my behind on the drivers seat started to cause the tailgate to pop open!! Laughing
Now I am about to tackle the front nearside door lock which refuses to respond to the key fob......then on to looking for the source of the rattle from under the front end (heatshield?).......still delighted with the car though especially the 42mpg.....and aiming to keep it for many years.
