England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 S Auto Santorini Black
New member

Hello all!

Finally took the jump and I am now the proud owner of a Freelander 2!

Only had it a week and I love it. Currently going through the expense of a cam belt kit and service cost not to mention the faulty fuel gauge but still think it's the best vehicle I have owned!

Hi Mat.
I am rowing the same boat as you at the moment, bought my FL2 last Thursday it is now sitting on my drive waiting to have it's new number plate personal, which I can not do until the paper work as come back from the DVLA.

In the mean time I have ordered service kit air, oil, pollen and fuel filter, also waiting on the belt kit, (Gates) with water pump, replacing the auxiliary belt at the same time.

Once I have done that it be up on the ramps to check and make good any loose under seal etc good luck with yours cheers Arctic

Hi, I had a look under mine today and it would benefit from some fresh under seal in places. What product would you recommend?

Hi Matt.
I too have had mine on the ramps and axles stands since Friday afternoon, scarped off any loose rust flakes, cleared off any dry dirt and mud, wires brushed the areas that have a little rust mainly on back and front sub-frame.

Later today Sunday I will go over the same area with a wire brush tool in a drill to clean it right down, treat it with Hammerite k -rust I will then spray the area with black oven paint, once that is dry I will cover it with this below maybe or just waxyol

Transmission niggly.

Further to my message some weeks ago when I reported the occasional transmission fault here is an update.
I had found that occasionally when trying to pull away after an engine stop progress was very slow unless I braked put the transmission lever into P then back to D and off I would go no problem.
Well the other day it repeated itself but I had the DSC error light on the dash. This only cleared after I had stopped later and restarted. Well this morning I put the OBD reader on and it found nothing amiss and then I looked at the dash and there is a message saying HDC fault but no DSC light on. The HDC message disappeared after turning ignition on and off. Agaon OBD reader failed to report an error. Now reading the handbook I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. On page 134 it says the Terrain Response System basically controls amongst other things the DSC and HDC. And here is the crux of the matter it mentions it can engage a very cautious state, when it thinks the conditions are slippery, where a large pedal movement has only a small effect on engine power! This is exactly what I get when trying to move off sometimes. I push the pedal down and she just creeps forward until as I say I brake go to P then to D and all ok.
Now then how do I figure out the cause as someday I am thinking the shift to P then back to D will fail to work.
Any ideas?

Hi Guys

Thinking of joining the Freelander side of things in the next few months after a long spell of having my spine shattered to death by Defenders and L200s.

Where would be the best place to ask some questions about maintenance and the LR extended warranties?

Cheers

Hi all

Welcome to Freel2.com, the brand new community web site for prospective owners, enthusiasts and everything else related to the forthcoming Freelander 2 (LR2) from Land Rover.

I'm Martin and I currently run DISCO3.CO.UK and RRSPORT.CO.UK - very similar sites for the new Discovery 3/LR3 and the Range Rover Sport.

Anyway, say hello here, let us know if you've got any info on the new Freelander, or have one on order, or just like the look of them from the spy shots so far Wink

Please have a play with the forum and gallery, and do let me know any problems or queries.

Enjoy!

Martin

Watch out for the 2011 model hesitation problem which seems to be ambient temperature dependent and only shows up in the summer months. LandRover were supposed to be working on a software fix but I am not sure if it ever appeared. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE
