That's a huge amount of sales the Evoque has lost out on,

The Macan is not the best looking from the front BUT from the drivers seat it looks brilliant, just one problem finding £43k, where did I put that lottery ticket 1995 P38 now dead

My previous vehicle was a P-car - a 14 year old 911. Recently our circumstances changed (in a great way) and the 911 was replaced by our Freelander 2.
Of course those 2 models are apples and oranges, but I would say there is still a definite step up from LR to Porsche, particularly in the dealer experience. Even going to buy a sump plug from the dealer was an event, consistently. Of course it may vary from dealer to dealer but my experience of a few LR dealers is generally 'get out unless you're buying' - very different from Porsche, perhaps surprisingly. Like old money v nouveau riche, I guess.

Until I actually drove and then later owned a 911 I was no fan of Porsche and even considered their owners to be somewhat . Although I love LR (this is my 3rd) I still think they have some way to go before they are a 'proper' prestige marque like Porsche.

As you can see I also have owned Porsche cars a 924 and 944s but both are gone,

I will just have to wait a few years until the Macan drops in price hopefully built quality is as good or better that the 944 I used to own 1995 P38 now dead

That's interesting actually because going into a Land Rover dealership I've felt nothing but 'welcome' even when I was very honest about just browsing. They have always been lovely to me. I don't look like your typical Range Rover owner either! I resemble more of a teenager in a hoody than a rich businessman! hehe

Very interesting video. Still wouldn't buy either though. If I had £45 to spare I'd probably go for a 1 year old Dsicovery or 4 year old Range Rover. Love em!

Looks like a aircraft console but buttons are small and glass will be required, 1995 P38 now dead

I can fully understand Porsche's philosophy behind placing so many physical buttons on the centre-console. In 10 years time they will still be functional, which cannot be said of new RR button-cleansed dash-board and reliance on LCD-screen controls instead. There are already a lot of owners of new RR and RRS complaining about the need to delve in sub-menus, for instance, to switch on heated seats...

Stick a Disco4 engine in the Evoque, that'll sort the power difference.  my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

May be interesting to find out how reliable the new Porsche proves over time - in the light of the recent Warranty Direct and What Car findings that Porsche are the second most unreliable cars on the road - worst was Bentley - concentrating on electrical systems failure. Sadly Landrover were third worst but at least the headlines in the press were panning Porsche, Bentley (and Mercedes Benz) for a change - they normally just fling mud at Landrover. If only Landrover would take some notice and make some attempt to nudge Landies up the reliability charts a smidgen more......

Yes, well Warranty Direct are still lumping the Freelander 1 in with the FL2, you can play with figures all day, but if there was a known dog in the bunch it will drag the others down With the 1.8 K series petrol in the mix it will take the FL a long time to climb the ladder. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

If you drill down into the Warranty Direct figures you can select FL2 or two variants of FL1. FL1 figures aren't that bad - it's actually the Discovery and the Range Rovers which are dragging the figures down - the Freelander is relatively good. Actual WD figures:

Freelander 2: 137

Discovery: 338

FFRR: 412

RRS: 301

i like the Macans interior, but unsure of the exterior looks, though they do look better than a Q5

A 3litre engine should give it some proper go. I've long thought that the evoque needs a nutter engine in it as an option for a very fast capability. A bit like the 5.0 SC in a fulfatrr
