Westfalia detachable towbar

Hi

Has anyone had a Westfalia detatchable towbar fitted to a FL2 ?

I did yesterday, (£345.00 inc elec) without the ball fitted its realy neat, all you can see is the housing & elec socket.

My question, when the towball is in place it looks off centre, ie looks skewed left by about 3/4 inch, we measured everything and it seems central but it looks really odd.

Comments please

PS. I'm not, and never will be a grockle (caravanner)

Just because you have a towbar, us caravaners don't assume you'll be towing a caravan, like non caravaners jump at.

If you don't want to be a grockle thats fine by me, but I quite like been a tourist in this country and others

You are right.
In some countries with more hectic driving (Romania included) tow bars are used more to make the car behind you keep a bigger distance from your rear bumper. Actually when I bought my FL2 I tackled with the ideea of having one installed but as I did not see one (the dealers did not have them on stock) I did not know which type would be best for this pourpose. Also no mudflaps have the same effect when it rains. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

JUST TO PUT YOU GUYS RIGHT Thumbs Up

What is the origin of the word 'grockle'?

This slightly dismissive term for a 'tourist' was, as several of our readers have noted, first popularized because of its use by the characters in the film The System (1962), which is set in the Devon resort of Torquay during the tourist season. Some older dictionaries suggested that this might be a West Country dialect word. Other scholars have suggested that it might originate in a comparison of red-faced tourists (in baggy clothing with handkerchiefs on their heads) to 'Grock', the famous clown. The word grockle was indeed picked up by the script-writer from the locals during filming in Torquay. However, it was apparently not an 'old local dialect word'. According to research by a local journalist in the mid-1990s, the word in fact originated from a strip cartoon in the children's comic Dandy entitled 'Danny and his Grockle'. (The grockle was a magical dragon-like creature.) A local man, who had had a summer job at a swimming pool as a youngster, said that he had used the term as a nickname for a small elderly lady who was a regular customer one season. During banter in the pub among the summer workers, the term then became generalized as a term for summer visitors. This seems to have occurred in, or only shortly before, the summer in which The System was filmed: we know of no instances of the word dating from before the release of The System (though one or two people from the south-west remain convinced that they knew it before then).

IN ADDITION THERE IS EVEN A GROCKLES.COM WHICH EVEN HAS A TRACTOR'S WEBPAGE (just for our chicken farmers I guess). Rolling with laughter

Hi

Sorry about that, when I stand at the back of the car, me and anyone who looks, including the fitter says its bent (off centre)

When I take a picture it does not look bent, thats why I didny post any.

It is about 1/2 to 3/4" out in my reckoning, the fitter has emailed Westfalia, guess what, no reply as yet.

is there any identical points for reference at each side you can take a measurement from Question

End of Right tow bar bracket to Hitch Joint = ??
End of Left bracket to Hitch Joint = ??
End of Right bracket to tow ball = ??
End of Left bracket to tow ball = ??

Is there any measurement from a diagram you could compare to? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have just taken some measurements

from the outside edge of the far right parking sensor to the centre of the towball it meaures 1.50 cm less than from the opposite side, ie. it is canted 1.50cm to the right looking at the back of the car, never right in a month of Sundays

This is the spec from the instruction booklet that came with the towball.

As you can see, it is for a MY 07 onwards, my car is Oct 07 XS

Very odd I think.

Just checked mine for comparison, rogern - the towball is slap bang in the middle (equal distance from each sensor) Wink 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
